The Children's Welfare Home is located in a small two-story building on the east side of the church. When Leo and Li Biqing entered the first floor corridor, they saw the figure of a nun dressed in a black skirt lightly coming out of one of the bedrooms .
The moment she saw them when she looked up, a flash of shock and apprehension passed across her round face, but she said calmly, "How did you come in, gentlemen? The church is not open to the public during this time, so please leave immediately. Otherwise, I will call the police!"
"Sister Emma?" Leo asked solemnly.
"Yes ..." the nun answered subconsciously.
Leo pulled out his proof of identity and shook it in front of her, "FBI. There is a serial murder case, and we need you to cooperate with the investigation. About the children in this welfare institution-"
Before he finished talking, Emma, who was like a trapped beast pierced by a spike, jumped up and hurriedly opened the door behind her. She quickly entered the room, and locked the door.
The sound of broken glass and hard objects falling could be heard from the room.
Leo immediately slammed the door twice but the lock didn't break. He immediately pulled his Glock with a silencer and fired two shots at the edge of the knob. He kicked the door open, but there was no one in the room. He only saw the glass window with wooden ribs smashed to pieces. It seemed that the sturdy nun had just broken through the window and fled in haste.
Li Biqing reached out and touched the sheet on the children's bed by the window and he became anxious, "It's still warm! She took a child!"
"Let's hurry up!" The federal agent jumped out of the window.
They ran across the backyard, chasing the vague shadows not far away. The nun gradually increased the distance between them, by virtue of her extreme familiarity with the environment. With the sudden sound of the car engine, a gray Camry rolled across the atrium square. It rushed crashed the closed iron gate, and it successfully roared towards the outside of the church.
Leo and Li Biqing ran out of the gate and immediately started the Chevrolet which was parked outside, and they chased the speeding Camry.
Obviously, the power of the government-issued SUV was far more than that of an old car that was about to be junk in seven or eight years. Within ten minutes, they caught up with the gray Camry, and saw it rushing out of town to escape-the path they were traversing in passes through the edge of the forest that leads to the neighboring county.
While driving, Leo called the state police officer Eden, and asked the other party to notify the county police to organize a round-up. By the time he hung up the call, the car driven by the suspect was already within their sight.
"Help me control the steering wheel!" He said to Li Biqing who was sitting in the passenger's seat, then he extended his head and arms out of the window and raised his gun to aim at the rear tire of the car in front of them.
He fired three shots, and two of those hit the target. The tires that were deflated instantly left the car in front struggling for tens of meters. Leo ordered Li Biqing to rush out of the roadbed and stop in a sparse forest.
The federal agent pushed the Chevrolet's door and jumped down, pointing the gun at the Camry as he shouted, "Get off! Slowly open the car door and come out alone!"
After a moment of silence, Emma opened the driver's door and got out of the car, but not alone. Her sturdy left arm was holding a child, close to her chest. She held a paper knife in her right hand, and the sharp blade was resting against the neck of the little hostage. It was a five or six-year-old girl, wearing a white cotton nightdress with her light-blonde curly long hair, like a large clump of seaweed, struggling and crying in panic and fear under the nun's restraint.
