40 ~ Stay

The second the door was unlocked, Beomgyu was the first to rush through them, still holding Y/n in his arms desperately. The limpness in her body was almost sickening, bringing a lump to Beomgyu's throat whenever he was reminded of it.

Taehyun was dragged in by Soobin and Yeonjun not long after, Hueningkai following behind them, appearing not to know what to do with his hands, as they seemed to be hovering around the three in front of him nervously.

When Rina came into sight, her hands instantly went to her mouth, clasping tightly over it in worry. She quickly got out of Beomgyu's way and followed him into the infirmary, tears filling her eyes.

Beomgyu helped to bring Taehyun inside when Y/n was lain down on one of the beds, his mind popping with anxiousness for both of them.

The second Taehyun was out of his arms, Yeonjun dashed around the room, grabbing different pieces of equipment and plugging them up to Y/n, barking orders at Hueningkai and Beomgyu to help Taehyun.

Hueningkai adjusted the bed so that Taehyun would be in a closer-to-sitting position, while Beomgyu unwrapped their makeshift mandage from his waist and tried to hold pressure on the wound as he removed his shirt.

As the shirt came over Taehyun's shoulders, the metallic smell of blood became horribly pungent, filling up the whole room like a poisonous gas. He was pale and barely conscious, his half-lidded eyes scanning the room around him and wincing whenever something made him move.

Beomgyu only got to stare in horror at the bloodied mess on his best friend's abdomen for a second, before he was moved out of the way by Yeonjun, who was now wearing an apron with a mask and surgical cap.

Beomgyu's heart dropped when he realised what this meant, but quickly understood that it meant he should probably leave.

Taking the hint, he ushered everyone else out of the room, his eyes stressfully darting between Taehyun and Y/n, not wanting to leave either of them.

"Please stay."

Taehyun's weak voice called out to Beomgyu, paining his ears to hear him in such pain. His eyes felt full as he turned around slowly, seeing Taehyun holding Yeonjun's anesthetic-mask-wielding hand away from his face.

The older boy cocked his head to the side in a way that easily translated to "Just do it" and Beomgyu didn't hesitate to oblige, closing the door behind Rina and rushing over to Taehyun's side.

Yeonjun signalled with his eyes to a spot on the counter, which had a pile of facemasks.

After putting the straps behind his ears, Beomgyu grabbed Taehyun's hand and squeezed tightly, trying to ignore the coldness he felt in it. He sent a weaker, yet noticeable squeeze back.

Even after he was sedated, Beomgyu never released Taehyun's hand throughout the whole surgery.

Despite being seated in possibly one of the most comfortable armchairs in existence, Beomgyu felt uncomfortable in every single position he adjusted his body to.

He pulled the blanket up to his neck, nevertheless knowing it wouldn't make a difference.

A quick check of his phone screen revealed the time to be 01:39, somehow making him less tired after figuring out.

He turned his head over to Taehyun, watching his sleeping figure with absolute relief, knowing that this was a sleep he'd end up waking up from.

Yeonjun had tried his utmost hardest to remove the bullet from his abdomen without causing any more bleeding, and his efforts didn't go in vain. The surgery went perfectly, and Taehyun was going to be okay.

However, Beomgyu tried to avoid looking to Y/n, knowing he'd only be reminded of Yeonjun's earlier words.

"She wasn't eating for days. Her blood sugar levels dropped severely, and she slipped into a coma."

He clenched his jaw, forcing himself to keep his gaze on Taehyun.

His chest rose and fell peacefully, bringing a strange sense of comfort to Beomgyu.

It didn't help him to think that the love of his life was holding on to life by the support of a single plug.
