#14 The Gardener (Part One)

I honestly don't know, it was just a funny idea in my head.

Sirius and James were sitting in the living room when they heard a knock at the door, before either of them could open it James' mum came over with a smile. She opened the door and let in a tall man with messy golden curls, his eyes were a mix of darker and lighter grey shades and his skin was pale with scars crossing it.

James and Sirius both observed with curiosity, he wasn't exactly what they'd expected but they trusted Effie's opinion and followed over to the kitchen. Effie was showing the man around the house and then brought him out to the garden. The man finally turned around when Effie saw her kids and introduced them.

"Boys this is Remus, he's going to be our gardener while I'm away, you know, just to make sure everything stays tame"

Sirius and James laughed, knowing full well she was referring to the sunflower incident that had happened the week prior...they still weren't sure if the magic had worn of those flowers yet.

"Nice to meet you Remus, I'm James, Effie's son"

"Good to meet you too, you guys have a beautiful house and gorgeous garden, I've never seen any family with such a vast variety" he looked to Effie who blushed and waved her hand,

"What can I say, I've got taste" she laughed before realising Sirius had remained silent, she nudged Sirius' arm and gestured to Remus. Sirius broke out of his trance, having been staring at Remus the entire time.

"Hey I'm Sirius, James' friend"

"Hey, do you live here too?" Remus tried not to let his fan girl voice come through as he prayed Sirius did live with James.

"Yeah, they're basically my family" James ruffed Sirius's hair and Effie kissed his cheek. Remus laughed and Sirius shrugged with a grin.

Remus had been admiring Sirius the entire time Effie had been talking, trying to focus on her while she spoke about the garden but failing as he saw Sirius walking towards them.

Effie grabbed her wand and keys, despite being a witch she enjoyed a car ride and would often drive to work, "alright I'm off for the day, Remus I'll pay you when I get home!"

Remus waved goodbye, nodding to James and Sirius then heading outside where he began to finish weeding the areas Effie had started. James smiled and left back to the kitchen, Remus seemed nice and he was just their gardener so there didn't seem to be anything to worry about. Sirius however was still standing in the doorframe, watching Remus who was unaware of his existence.

"Sirius I just realized the pantry is basically empty, I'm going to run down to the store and get some stuff you coming?"

"Ah I'm just going to wait here, grab me some cereal though if we're out"

"Fruit loops?"

"You know me too well"

James laughed and Sirius waited till he heard the door shut before unbuttoning his shirt down a bit and fixing his hair. He stood in the doorframe and took in a deep breath, coming over and sitting next to Remus.

"Hey Remus how you going?"

"Since the last time I saw you? Still good" Remus laughed and Sirius rolled his eyes realizing it had been like five minutes since Effie had left.

"So you're a gardener?" Sirius quickly changed the subject

"Yeah, I've always loved herbology plus it's a quick way to make money"

"Oh? You work somewhere else too?"

"Yeah I work for part of the daily prophet, only a couple days a week though since I'm just an intern. Honestly I enjoy this more though" Remus awkwardly laughed and gestured to the garden.
