6. Consequences

"This morning, heroes and rescue crew are busy cleaning up the remains of a fire that broke out in the industrial district. Two warehouses have been reduced to rubble and there are an unknown amount of casualties or injuries. The cause has not been pinpointed, but police believe a scuffle occurred between a criminal and some well known vigilantes."

The League of Villains were silent as they watched the news report, a wave of cold understanding washing between them.

"Dabi....." Spinner said. "Is this why he never came home?"

"He can't be dead...." Toga whispered. "He can't be, not like this...."

"Pathetic," Shigaraki sneered. He slammed his fist on the table, shaking with rage. "I bet some of those worthless heroes cornered him...."

"This is terrible. This is fine!" Twice said.

"He's not really dead, right?" Magne asked nervously. "He can't be...."

Mr. Compress felt his heart sink. He knew he was dead. Dabi's disease wouldn't allow him to escape a blaze of that magnitude no matter how tenacious he proved. He took off his top hat and held it to his chest, "Today we have lost a League Member and a friend. He will be missed dearly."

"Don't say that!" Toga yelled, punching his chest. "It isn't true! It can't be!"

"Toga...." He tried.

"No! No! No! Shut up!" She yelled, continuing to hit him.

A pale dry hand reached out and stopped her fist, pinkie raised. She stopped immediately as her leader stepped in front of her and the magician "Denial isn't going to fix anything," He said coldly.

Toga whimpered, "But....."

"Use your rage." Shigaraki growled. "Use it to go forward and destroy the world he hated."

"Indeed," Kurogiri agreed. "Master Dabi would no doubt dislike being pitied. There's a better way to make sure his death matters."

"We can't be sure he's dead," Magne said. "Not so easily."

Compress sighed, "In this case I fear it's true. Dabi always was vulnerable due to the side effects of his power. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the final straw for his body....."

"They said no remains were found," Spinner said.

"Likely carbonized," Kurogiri cut in. "A horrible tragedy. "I can go in and attempt to find anything, but chances are slim. We'd all be best to remember our friend and achieve our goals with him in mind."

"Endeavor...." Toga said. She hugged herself, "He wanted to kill Endeavour. Wanted him to suffer."

"Well then," Mr. Compress said. "It appears we have another target of our vengeance now."

"It's not going to be the same without Dabi...." Toga muttered.

Twice patted her on the head, "Who says we have to be without him?"

Izuku sat by your bedside, watching the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you lay unconscious. You looked fine, minus the wrappings on your arms. Recovery Girl said that the burns had been mostly superficial and that Izuku was lucky that All-Might rescued you from the blaze in time.

{Izuku knew something was wrong immediately when you neglected to text him like you had promised last night. His suspicions were confirmed when he called and you hadn't picked up. You always answered his calls no matter what. When he caught word of a fire near the subway you took, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that you were in trouble. Being unable to act on his own, he begged All-Might to search the area for you. Sure enough, the hero had found you unconscious in the center of the blaze. All-Might safely recovered you and brought you back to U.A where you lay now.}
