Language

I will say this time and time again, but PLEASE watch your language in writing! DO NOT ROLL YOUR EYES AND SCROLL ON TO THE NEXT CHAPTER!!! I understand that this is a touchy subject and that this is how some people express themselves, but it is so often unnecessary!!!

Now, what do I mean by "language?" I mean: bad words, swear words, cuss words, basically any thing that is abbreviated as the "D, A, F, X, Z, D, W, word." You understand what I am saying?

There are so many better words which you can use. Putting "swear words" into your writing makes you look like...an idiot. It shows that you have nothing better to say than bad word up on bad word!!! It's not funny...You're also driving away a part of your audience! I know a bunch of people who refuse to read anything with swear words! Plus, you might be attracting the wrong audience. If for nothing else, do it for writing!!!

I will not deny that—in some cases—language is actually beneficial in character development. Certain characters naturally swear which can be humorous, but it takes a special character and great care. I find that it's easier to just to not add language. It may be partially necessary if the language you use, is correct to the context of the book or story.

Another thing is that—if you're writing Fantasy—it doesn't make sense to use modern day swear words! I mean, think about it! What if Frodo (in "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien) swore! It would not make any sense! How in Middle Earth could a hobbit know American cuss words!?!?!? It's just logic.

HELPFUL TIP: With fantasy and science fiction, you could also make up your own swear words. This may sound a little dorky, but it provides a great opportunity for world building and gives your fans something innocent to say when they're angry!

Since I've asked you not  use something. So it's only fair to give you an alternative. My alternative is just to use strong words. Words with meanings. It doesn't necessarily mean they are long, but instead, descriptive ones!!! Words are the breath and life of writing. Chose carefully and bring your story to life!!! Another thing which is acceptable is just simply saying "he swore." You don't have to put the actual "swear word" in your story.
