Greetings, Ink Jars, Professor Lewis here with a new and exciting installment of my class! Today we shall be discussing the infamous Short Story.

"Ahh," you sigh, "I remember those days, writing short stories! Tee-hee! I was so young then."

No. Stop it! Never cease writing short stories and never judge them! Why am I so adamant about this? You shall see...

Professor Lewis' rant #1: Why are Short Stories Good for your Writing?

They teach you how to tell a great story in a small amount of space. They push you to invoke emotion and sympathy! Some of my best works have been short stories!

Professor Lewis' rant #2: They're good for the writer's soul
Let's be honest. We all love writing our novels...we just don't always like writing our novels (that is is Tim Hawkin's quote by the way. He is a Christian Comedian. Go check him out on a three in the morning break from writing). Short stories give us something quick and strong to push through easily. Just take a day or three and write your heart out about whatever little plot you think of. This allows you to return to your lovely *cough* eternal *cough* novel feeling accomplished and ready to write. Trust me, I KNOW what I'm talking about. This definitely helps if you're lacking inspiration for your novel. Perhaps you want to write one of the character's backstory! Perhaps, you need a break and should just distance yourself from the novel all together.

Professor Lewis's Rant #3: They are fun!

Short stories allow you to try new things, experiment in New genres WITHOUT being extremely dedicated!

Professor Lewis' Note: So, Ink Jars, I need to touch on a very important concept the "Lewis Style Short Story." Those who have read some of my so called short stories, understand what I am talking about. I write a story that is fifteen pages and call it short because it IS compared to most of my books which are over 110,000 words...yeah I have a problem...anyway, Lewis Style Short Stories aren't bad at all. Sometimes a plot actually requires you to have a larger page count in order to honor it correctly.

WARNING: This does NOT mean you can simply add tons of fluff and pointless scenes! A short story is supposed to be quick and concise. Make every sentence count.
