Two Victors

It's a warm night, as the sweat covers up my whole body and my head fills with different thoughts. I'm still astounded that the whole fierce pair from the richest district is gone, unlucky this year. I make sure my bobby pin is secure, just incase it fell off or something. Cato brushes away some of my hair covering my face, making me more comfortable. "I don't know." I say. "Know what?" "How I'm going to kill you if I have to." "We'll figure that our later, just get as much rest as possible, Clove." Cato and I are now face to face, once again awkwardly, not knowing what to do or say to each other. Little droplets of rain start to fall. "We need shelter!" I scream. We worked and found a relatively shady tree, it's foliage thick enough for covering. "You know when I said that Glimmer was only a little bit pretty?" Cato recites. "Yeah..." I murmur, rolling my eyes. "I know someone prettier." "Someone from home?" I ask inquisitively. "Well kinda, not right now though," Cato takes a long breath and says, "It's you."

I glare into the moon, it's bright features nearly blinding me as tiny bits of rain still fall frequently from the illuminating sky. Those few last words that Cato has just said makes me think that he probably does like me more than a friend. Unless that conversation was on camera for the whole of Panem to see, no one really knows about us. It's just like our secret. Cato is already sleeping though, he dozed off a few seconds after he said that I was prettier than that girl who shined or whatever. I'm still amazed that three quarters of us are dead and that there can only be one tribute. One victor. One child who can see their family, their proud district. My thoughts are still swirling through my head like an uncontrollable tornado, spinning about in different directions. But somehow, this helps me fall asleep into about the fifth night of these gory games.

"Attention tributes!" I startle awake, my head unusually cupped in Cato's hand. "From now on, two people can win if originate from the same district." A huge smile smears across my face. "Yes! Cato we will definitely win!" "Yeah, this is great," Cato surprisingly says enthusiastically. "This is the only announcement. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor." I clap my hands together in joy, realizing that my dream has come true, for both of us to come home. I'm actually not as confident as I would be though, beating the "star crossed lovers" from district twelve may be a risky challenge, them being even nearly as skilled and determined as we are. "Clove, we can actually do this." "I know, Cato, I know." I say under my breath deeply. Before I know it, a silver parachute and container arrives into my the lanky branch of our sheltering tree, ajar slightly. "This day can't get any better," I whisper excitedly. I grab the item ravenously and open it immediately. The fresh smell of rice and cooked rabbit freshens my ears as I place the wholesome food between Cato and I. We munch on the food and luckily have time to relax for a few hours, being positive we'll make district two proud.
