Rusty's Secret

1. Sleepover

It was a bright, sunny morning in Brisbane. Rusty was fast asleep in his bed until his annoyingly loud alarm startled him.

BEEEEEEP

"GAH!" He screamed, his eyes started to adjust to the stinging light shining through his window. He got up and looked at his phone. It was 8:30 am. Summer was almost over. There were just a couple more days left until he goes back to that hell-hole hole people call school. It was going to be his first year at middle school.

"Kids! It's time for Brekkie!" Rusty's Mum yelled from the kitchen. "Coming!" He shouted back. He went to the bathroom and cleaned his teeth before he ate. He then walked over to the kitchen. Dusty and Digger were already sitting down at the table. "Good morning!" Dusty shouted. "Good morning" Rusty replied, rubbing his eyes. He sat down at the kitchen table while his mum put down a plate of eggs and French toast in front of him. Him and Dusty were still eating, but Digger had just finished. "Alright, I'm going out to play cricket with Tiny and Captain" he explained. Digger was eighteen now, his mum let him use her car to go anywhere
he liked. "Alright, just be careful" his mum said nicley. He walked out the front door and shut it behind him.

Now, it was just Rusty, Dusty, and their mum. Their Dad was out on patrol, but he would be back in a couple of months. Rusty and Dusty had finally finished their food and put their plates in the sink. They both walk up to their rooms and shut the door behind them. Rusty unplugs his phone from the charger, He texts his best friend, Jack.

Rusty: Hey, are u still coming to the sleepover tonight?

Jack: Yeah, what's the time?

Rusty: you can be over by 5

Jack: Ok, See ya then! :)

Rusty stops texting and walks into the kitchen where his Mum is. "I have to go to work. I'll be back later tonight. Remember, there are chicken tenders and French fries in the fridge for your sleepover with Jack. I'll see you later, bye!" She rushes out of the door. Rusty opens the fridge and takes out the chicken tenders out of it, and sets them on the kitchen counter for later. Dusty walks into the kitchen. "Where's Mum?" She asks curiously. "She just went to work she'll be back later tonight" he responds. She walks into the living room and starts watching TV.

About three hours of watching TV later Rusty's phone buzzes, it's a text from Jack.

Jack: hey, I'm omw.

Rusty: Ok I'll see you soon.

Rusty walks into the kitchen and puts a bag of popcorn in the microwave. He looks through the cupboard and takes out his secret stash of candy that he's been able to hide from his Mum for weeks. He puts the chicken tenders and fries in the oven. All the food is almost ready. He then hears a knock on the door. He walks towards it and opens it up. It's Jack. "Hey Rusty!" Jack says excitedly. "Hey Jack!" Rusty says back. They lean in for a hug, and both their tails start wagging. Jack and Rusty have always been close. Ever since Rusty and Indy broke up last school year, they became even closer. "Have fun, mate!" Jack's Dad yells from the car. Lulu waves goodbye as they drive off. "Let the sleepover begin!" Jack shouts excitedly.

The two walk through the door and into the living room. "Hey Jack!" Dusty shouts. "There are chicken tenders in the oven" Rusty explains to Jack. "Okay!" He replies, smiling at Rusty. "What movie should we watch?" Rusty questions the two. they scroll through Netfleas to find a movie. They all decide to watch a mystery movie. Everyone sits on the couch, picking at the bowls of popcorn and hard candies sitting next to them. Jack scooches a little closer to Rusty. Rusty glances over at him. "Uh...S-Sorry..." Jack apologizes. Rusty notices his face is a little red, making Rusty's face red as well. "I-It's ok" Rusty says with a smile.

Dusty gets up and walks into the kitchen to grab another pack of candy. When she walked into the kitchen, an unpleasant smell fills the room. She turns her head towards the oven, which was now smoking. "RUSTY! THE OVEN IS ON FIREEEEE" She squeals. Rusty heard her screaming, quickly gets up, and sprints into the kitchen. He reaches the kitchen with a panicked look on his face.
Dusty points to the oven. Rusty sighs and opens it up. Half of the chicken tenders are burnt to a crisp. Jack walks into the kitchen to see what was going on. He sees Rusty on the ground, looking disappointed. "What are we gonna eat now..?" He asks himself. He looks over at his phone and texts his mum.

Rusty: Hey, I might've accidentally burnt the chiken tenders...

Mum: How in the world did that happen!?

Rusty: well I was distracted while we were looking for a movie to watch.

Mum: I'll order pizza for you guys...it'll be there soon.

Rusty: thx Mum ❤

He looks away from his phone. "My Mum is gonna order us pizza" he tells  Jack and Dusty. "Yay!" They both shout in unison. They walk into the living room and continue their movie.

A couple minutes later, they hear the doorbell ring. "I'll get it!" Rusty shouted. Jack follows. They open the door and grab the pizza from the deliverers' hands. "Thank you!" Jack shouts happily. They shut the door and enjoy their food. The movie eventually ends, and it's almost time for bed. As everyone is cleaning up the living room, they hear the front door open. It was Digger. He speed walks through the house. "Hey Digger, how was cri-" Rusty noticed something was wrong. Digger's face was bright shade red, and he had a confused expression. He looked flustered.

Rusty decided not to ask what was wrong, and he just headed to bed. Jack lays down his sleeping mat and pillow on the floor. Rusty tiredly climbs into bed. "Good night, Jack." Rusty tells him before shutting off the light. "Good night, Rusty!" He responds back. They both eventually peacefully fall asleep.
