Rusty's Secret

17. Trick or Treating

As September faded into October, Jack's cut had just about healed, he to get it stitched up. He got bullied for it, but he got used to it.

"So what are you gonna be for Halloween?" Jack asks him. "I think I'm gonna be a soldier. What about you?" Rusty questions. "An astronaut" Jack replies as they sit down in math. "Alright, class, happy Halloween!" Mr. Retriever says to the class. Rusty and Jack imeaditly fall into a state of bordem. "Wish we didn't have school on halloween..." Rusty sighs.

Lunch time...

"So, what are we all gonna be for Halloween?" Bluey asks the group. "I'm gonna be a soldier" Rusty answers. "Uh...I think I'm gonna be an astronaut" Jack tells her. "Me and Indy are gonna be clowns" Judo says excitedly. "Imma be grim reaper" Mackenzie says tiredly. "I'm gonna be a skeleton. What about you?" Pretzel asks back. "I'm planning to be a Spider" Bluey answered.

"You're gonna be...a-a...what?" Jack asks nervously. "A spider?" Bluey responds with a confused expression. "Jack has arachniphobia. Like really bad arachniphobia..." Rusty explains. "O-Oh...I can switch my costume if you like" Bluey suggests. "N-No, it's fine..." Jack stutters. "It's okay, Jack...your gonna be fine, it's just a costume" Rusty tries to calm him.

"Ok, kids, have fun! Just be back before ten!" Rusty's Mum shouts as they begin to leave the house. "Bye, mum!" Dusty waves as she hops out of the front door.

Rusty, Dusty, and Digger meet up with Rusty's friends on the sidewalk near his house. Digger then sees his friend Tiny across the street. He starts to blush. "U-Uh...I'm gonna go trick or treat with Tiny" Digger explains as he makes sure there are no cars in the road. "Ok! Cya!" Rusty yells, not paying any attention to him at all. "Who's that?" Jack questions, pointing at Tiny. "Ugh, just my brother's little boyfriend. Are you guys ready?" Rusty asks the group. "Y-Yeah...I'm ready..." Jack takes a glance at Bluey's costume. Rusty can tell that Jack is scared. Rusty grabs his hand. "You're gonna be okay" Rusty encourages him. Jack starts to blush a little.

Okay, c'mon! We haven't got all night!" Mackenzie shouts. "Wait! We need to go get my sister first!" Bluey yells at him. "Ugh! This always happens!" Mackenzie says with an anoyed tone in his voice. Bluey walks down the block, and a minute later, she comes back with Bingo and Lila, who are both ghosts.

"Dusty!" Bingo and Lila run towards her and give Dusty a tight squeeze. "Ok, now we're ready" Bluey announces.

The group walks to the first house they see, it was a gray house near Bluey's. She's never really seen who's been living there. Mackenzie rings the doorbell, and they hear slow, creeky footsteps reaching closer to the door.

An elderly poodle opens it up. "Trick or treat!" They all shout in unison, holding out their bags. "Ah...let's see here we have an astronaut, a soldier, two clowns, two Ghosts, another Ghost" She says slowly. "I'm a grim reaper" Mackenzie corrects, clearly annoyed. Mackenzie was extremely impatient. "Oh right right. We have a skeleton, a witch, and a spider" She says, staring down at them, pointing to each person. Jack gets a little scared by even the word spider. Rusty grips his hand tightly. The old woman drops candy into each of their bags. "Thank you!" They all shout as they step off of her porch.

"Okay, where should we go to next?" Pretzel asks everyone. "What about there?" Mackenzie points at a large house decorated like a haunted mansion. "T-There...?" Bingo says nervously, taking a few steps back. "It's okay, Bingo, the decorations aren't real" Lila says calmly. Lila places her hand on Bingo's. Bingo gets a strange feeling in her stomach. She can feel her body getting hotter. Lila lets go of her hand and walks over to the big house, leaving Bingo standing there, unsure of what just happened.

"C'mon!" Mackenzie yells as he rushes to the house's front yard. Jack looks up at the house in awe of how huge it is, that is, until he notices the giant black widow  decoration on the roof. Jack stops walking up to the house and just stands there, staring. "What's wrong?" Rusty asks him. Jack points up at the roof. "Oh...it's ok Jack it's not real. We don't have to go to the house, I can just stay back here with you" Rusty says nicely.

Mackenzie jumps onto the house's front porch and aggressively rings the doorbell about six times. "Mackenzie,  calm down it's just candy!" Bluey shouts, itching at one of her spider legs. "Shut up!" Mackenzie yells. He can get pretty serious when it comes to candy. A tall brown Labrador dressed as a vampire opens up the door. "Wow! Nice costumes!" He says happily. He drops full sized candy bars into each of their bags. Mackenzie watches as he drops the biggest herseys choccolate bar he's ever seen lands in his orange Halloween bag.

Dusty looks behind her and sees Jack and Rusty, who are standing at the sidewalk together. "Exuse me, sir. Can I my friends back there get some candy too?" Dusty asks nicely, staring up at him. "Of course!" He hands Dusty two extra candy bars. "Thank you!" They all hop off the steps and back onto the sidewalk. "Here you go!" Dusty hands Jack and Rusty the candy bars. "Thank you, I was hoping you'd do that" Rusty laughs as he drops it into his back. "T-Thanks" Jack stutters as he takes the chocolate.

It has now been hours since they started trick or treating. They've been walking for a while,  and their bags were getting filled with candy, and it was beginning to become heavy. It was getting late. "Bluey, should we head to your house now?" Pretzel asks her. Indy and Judo were getting tired of holding their inflatable clown mallets. "Yeah, we can go now" Bluey answered.

They were all heading over to Bluey's house until they saw Stephanie one block down. They all stop dead in their tracks. Jack freezes up. He's terrified that he's gonna get hurt again. They all figured out that Stephanie was the person who hit Jack since she was the only one who was violent before.

Rusty grabbed Jack's hand to calm him down. He takes a few deep breaths before everyone continues to walk to Bluey's house. Stephanie looks around, noticing them across the street. She laughs quietly before crossing the street.

She sneaks up behind them, her hands curled into fists. She's slowly creeps towards them. Judo can feel something behind her. She swings her body around. She sees Stephanie and quickly beats her with her big inflatable mallet. "Go away!" Judo screams. Everyone just watches. Stephanie yanks the mallet out of her hands, throws on the ground, and jumps onto it, making it pop. She kicks Judo in the stomach. She laughs as Judo falls. But soon after, she gets pushed onto the concrete by Digger. "What the fuck is wrong with you!" Digger screams at her. She slowly gets up and runs away to the other side of the street. "Do you know that kid?" Digger asks his brother."Y-Yeah...she's the one who stabbed Jack and Hurt Bluey, Indy, and Judo" He explains. "Well, if she tries any more dumb shit let me know" Digger says sternly.

After a couple of minutes, They eventually arrive at Bluey's house. They all walk into her living room and empty their candy bags. They trade candy to each other and take off their itchy costumes.

"You kids wanna watch a movie?" Bandit asks, walking into the living room. "Yeah!" They all shout in unison. Bandit puts on Netfleas so they can find a scary movie to put on. After about five minutes of discussion, they all agree on a movie. They all get comfortable and get ready to watch.
