WARNINGS: Gutting of Dead Animals
Axel was dragging a dead deer through the woods. He drained the blood of the animal to give to Stefan. Then he proceeded to gut and clean the animal. Axel worked quietly as he heard kids playing in the yards away from his shed. Axel drew his bow, turning with an arrow ready.
"Your reflexes haven't faltered, I see."
Axel's eyes glowed red, showing he was the angelic firstborn of Lucifer. Also shows he belonged in his garrison.
"Tell me why I shouldn't rip your heart out of your chest," Axel growled.
"My, you're quite violent, aren't you? Over 50 years of fighting by your side and you're still trigger-happy. How've you been, kid?"
Axel slowly smirked and lowered his weapon. He put it away to hug the intruder. The first man witnessed being turned into an angel... Known as the righteous man who bargained with God. Also one of Axel's closest friends.
"I'm good. I have missed you, Dean," Axel grinned, "Where's Sam?"
"Busy in heaven..."
"Do I want to know," Axel asked.
"Do you want to hear about my brother banging your uncle," Dean sassed.
Axel gave a look of disgust.
"Exactly. What are you working on," Dean asked.
"Stefan needed an extra layer of skin for the football," Axel said, lifting the butcher's knife, "The one he has is getting worn down. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in heaven with your husband, Castiel?"
"Boss upstairs has a new assignment for you," Dean said, "If you're up for it."
"Does it have to do with the Salvatores?"
"No... You're going to head somewhere else," Dean said, "The Salvatores were a test run. This is the real mission."
Axel set down the butcher's knife with a heavy sigh.
"What is it," Axel asked.
"You're heading to New Orleans," Dean said, "Your new job is guarding a man by the name of Klaus Mikaelson, him and his family of misfit siblings..."
"Klaus Mikaelson? I just ran into him," Axel said.
"Then you know who I'm talking about," Dean said.
"Wonderful. 75 years of watching over the Salvatores and now I have to leave them," Axel said, "The news will break their hearts."
"They're special to you," Dean asked.
"They remind me of you and Sam," Axel said, "Only vampires instead of hunters."
Dean huffed out a chuckle.
"I can tell them for you," Dean said, "So you don't have to wait."
"No. I rather do it myself," Axel said, "I've grown fond of this family. It's only right I face them."
Dean followed Axel to the house. Once Damon, Stefan, and Elena were gathered, he broke the news to them.
"Will we ever see you again," Elena asked.
"Not likely, Elena," Axel said, giving a sad smile, "But just know, I will always watch over this family with a smile. You brought me a lot of joy and love. I'm happy I got to be a part of it."
"We are too," Stefan said, hugging him.
Damon and Elena hugged him afterward.
"Take care of yourselves," Axel said, leaving with Dean.
"The hardest part of this job is always leaving," Dean said, "Good luck, Axel."
Dean left with a sound of wings, then he turned. Ready to find New Orleans and face his real mission...
Or at least he thought he was ready.
