"Axel... You know what I think. I think you're afraid of letting people in because that means you have a chance to lose them."
"Don't be ridiculous, Rachel. I'm not desperate," Young Axel smiled.
"Being afraid to lose someone doesn't make you desperate, in my opinion. It just means that you truly love them," Rachel said, softly.
"Can I tell you a secret?"
"Of course, you can."
"I'm terrified to lose you," Young Axel confessed, "Because without you there is nothing worth loving anymore."
"I doubt that," Rachel said, "There is always something worth loving. You just have to find it."
"Axel... Axel!"
Axel sat up, forcing himself awake.
"I'm up! I'm awake," Axel yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, "What happened?"
"You fell asleep around 3 in the morning," Klaus said, handing him a cup of coffee, "I made you some coffee."
"What time is it," Axel asked, taking the mug.
"8 in the morning," Klaus said.
Axel looked around, noticing he was in Klaus's bedroom. Which meant Klaus must've carried him after he fell asleep.
"Why are you buried in this book," Klaus asked, holding up the lore book, "You've been studying it for days now."
"Jack confided in me about a concern of his. He said he was afraid he would go insane if Landon died. Except Jack is a Nephilim, which means he can't die unless I put him down. So I've been trying to find a way to sever the bond or find a loophole in it. I can't handle burying my baby brother," Axel explained.
Klaus went quiet as he flipped through the pages. He's noticed how Jack cares for the Mikaelsons as well, especially Hope. She's mentioned how she views Jack as her best friend.
"Is Jack okay," Klaus asked, meeting Axel's eyes, "I can only imagine how much stress he's under. Especially since Landon is traveling the world while he's stuck here."
"I don't know. I haven't really talked to him since that conversation," Axel said, "I'm worried I'll break down in tears if I do."
"Talk to your brother, Axel," Klaus sighed, "Tell him to pack a bag and go spend time with Landon. It's for the best."
"I can talk to him later," Axel said, attempting to avoid the situation.
"Now," Klaus said sternly, setting the book down.
Axel stared at him for a moment. His sharp tone and disapproving eyes reminded him of her (Rachel often got pissed at Axel when they were younger). He sighed in defeat and got up to find his baby brother. Once he was out the door, Klaus pulled out his cell phone. He dialed in a familiar number and waited for a response.
"Hello, Freya. Did you miss me," Klaus asked, after the call connected.
"What do you want, Klaus," Freya asked, knowing he needed a favor.
"How awful of you to assume I'm only calling because I want something. But since you asked, what do you know about soul bonds," Klaus asked, making Freya smirk, "And is there a way to break it?"
"Soul bonds? I haven't heard that name in forever," Freya said, watching her son, Nick, giggle in Keelin's arms, "There isn't a way to break it but there is a spell to freeze it for a while. It requires a good amount of magic though."
"How much magic," Klaus asked.
"Is something wrong? Why are you asking about this," Freya asked.
"It's important to me," Klaus said, "How much magic do you need?"
"Well, more than me for sure," Freya said.
"What if I send a Bennett witch your way," Klaus asked.
"I thought Bonnie hated you," Freya asked.
"She does. But she loves Caroline and Elena," Klaus said, "I can convince them. Besides it's either her or Vincent. And he hates me even more than she does. Would her magic be enough for you to do the spell?"
Not to mention, although Bonnie hates Klaus, she adores Freya. They're close friends and Freya has helped Bonnie get stronger in her abilities. Their friendship is almost as deep as Caroline and Elena's with her.
"Bonnie is pretty damn strong, so yeah," Freya said, knowing how much she missed the Bennett witch, "What's the name of the soul bonds you wanted to freeze?"
"Landon Kirby and Jack Morningstar," Klaus said.
Freya went silent as a smile spread across her lips.
She's heard of Klaus's current love interest through Rebekah. So she's familiar with Axel Morningstar's little brother as well.
"You love him, don't you," Freya asked softly, speaking about Axel.
"Are you able to do the spell or not," Klaus asked, ignoring her question.
His refusal to respond was the only answer Freya needed.
"Yeah. I'll freeze it so it'll give me time to find a way to sever the bond. If you have any ideas of your own, give me a call," Freya said.
"Thank you, Freya," Klaus said, hanging up the phone.
"Is something wrong with our sister?"
Klaus felt his heart jump as Elijah's voice was right behind him. He turned to face his brother.
His expression and demeanor appeared the same. But now, Elijah's calming energy seemed to have shifted. It made Klaus uneasy, truthfully.
"Yes. She's helping me with an important project," Klaus said.
"Did something happen," Elijah asked.
"It was to help someone from Axel's family," Klaus said, trying not to give away too much.
"Are you alright, Neeklaus? You seem jumpy," Elijah said, a slight smirk on his lips.
"I'm fine," Klaus muttered, walking past him.
Elijah followed Klaus with his eyes before leaving the room.
Klaus began to read the lore book on soul bonds as well. He went to the Mikaelson book collection (basically a bunch of information the siblings collected over the centuries). His fingers trailed over the spines of the old books before pulling one out.
Klaus blew the dust off and flipped through the pages.
"Klaus."
He flinched slightly and looked up, meeting Kol's eyes.
"I thought you were someone else," Klaus muttered.
"You feel it too, don't you," Kol asked.
"Feel what," Klaus asked, looking at the book.
"That something is terribly wrong with Elijah."
Klaus stiffened and lifted his eyes once more. Even Kol seemed uneasy with Elijah's behavior. And if Kol could feel it, then it's definitely serious.
"Where is he," Klaus asked, realizing he lost track of him.
"DAD!!"
