Axel helped pass out the invitations to Rebekah's party. A woman stopped in front of him. Axel looked up to see it was Rebekah.
"I'm out of invitations... Did you have anyone you wanted to invite," Rebekah asked, "Friends? Family?"
Axel thought about the pure havoc that would unfold if his father and uncles decided to join.
"No, I'm good..."
"You're not even gonna consider inviting me," Lucifer asked, stepping up to them, "Hello, son."
"Father, what are you doing here," Axel asked, getting to his feet.
"Coming to check on you," Lucifer said, "What exactly is the fundraiser for?"
"Nothing really. It's to attract tourists," Rebekah said, glancing at Axel.
"Sounds like fun," Lucifer said, "I should get going since you are busy preparing the event."
Lucifer walked down the street until he disappeared.
"Your dad is extremely handsome," Rebekah said, "I see where you get it from now."
"Thanks?"
"Is it bad when he shows up," Rebekah asked.
"Not really. He can be quite intimidating at times," Axel explained, "My father is overprotective. Nothing serious though... Hopefully."
Rebekah walked inside with Axel.
"Axel, can I ask you a serious question," Rebekah asked, pouring herself a drink.
"Of course," Axel smiled, "What is it?"
"It's about you..."
"Uh-oh," Axel teased, making her smirk, "What about me?"
"Well, I know what your dad looks like..."
"Sorta looks like. He uses a vessel when he's around humans. His true form would burn the skin off your bones," Axel corrected.
Rebekah stared at him in horror.
"Right. I should probably let you know now that I prefer my skin attached to my bones," Rebekah teased, making him chuckle, "What about your mother? Where is she? Is she an angel? Like your dad?"
Axel went quiet for a moment. The history about his mother is bound to get out in some way or another. He rather get it over with now.
"Rebekah, do you know what a Nephilim is," Axel asked, sitting down, "It's an unnatural phenomenon that occurs when an angel and a human have a child. Sometimes it could be a demon and a human. In my case, it's an archangel and a human. Typically during the births of these Nephilim, if the mother is human... She'll die."
Rebekah gave a look of sorrow as Axel lifted his eyes to meet hers. He shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
"I never knew my mother. I knew her name and I knew that she loved me enough to keep me alive," Axel said, "She died because of that."
"May I ask her name?"
"Chloe... Her name was Chloe," Axel said, smirking, "From what I heard she was a damn good woman. She was a detective."
Axel felt tears rushing to his eyes. He wiped them away and stood up.
"Excuse me," Axel said, walking out of the compound.
Rebekah wanted to apologize but couldn't bring herself to speak.
Axel walked down the streets with tears blurring his vision. He went to an empty alleyway and leaned against the wooden fence. He tried to calm his breathing down as emotions filled his head.
Suddenly it seemed he was hearing everyone's thoughts at once. Nothing was in focus and as he looked around he could only see souls and spirits.
"Please... No," Axel cried, hugging his body.
He slid down in a crouched position, sobbing to himself.
"Axel... Axel!"
He tried to walk away but was too late. He felt arms hug around him which only made his tears come stronger. He soon recognized the familiar dark hair of his father.
"I know," Lucifer whispered, feeling Axel go limp in his arms, "It's okay. I know."
Lucifer felt his own tears push through as Axel's pain traveled to him. Finally, he started to calm down completely.
"Are you okay," Lucifer asked, "Maybe we should talk to my father again. This is too much..."
"I'm fine," Axel said, avoiding his eyes.
Lucifer forced eye contact.
"She loved you, you know that right," Lucifer whispered, speaking about his mother, "You are the best miracle she could've ever hoped for."
"I'm the reason she's dead," Axel said, "And there is nothing I wouldn't do to have her here instead of me. I'm a monster..."
"So what does that make Jack? Is he a monster to you," Lucifer asked.
"No..."
"Is he a killer to you," Lucifer asked.
"No. Jack is only a child. He's a sweet child," Axel said.
"What makes you any different?"
Axel couldn't answer that, not because he didn't know the answer. He knew why he was different from Jack. After all, Axel was a killer before he reached his teenage years.
It wasn't all for the good intentions either. It was because it felt good. The idea of people fearing the utterance of his name. The idea of angels scared to look his way. The idea of being recognized as his father's evil spawn. Axel's reputation made Chuck nervous and he knew it.
"You should get some rest, Axel," Lucifer said, "I can walk you back."
"I got it," Axel said, leaving quickly.
Lucifer watched him with a sad smile. Although, he spoke about Axel as a sweet child. He too knew of Axel's history of violence. He also knew how easily he could revert back to those old habits.
