-Gwen-

As I walked, or more like stumbled down the halls with Arowin's leech-like grip on my arm, I analyzed my surroundings. I thought I was being discreet, but Arowin's squeeze on my wrist told me he had been watching.

"Eyes. Down."

I sighed and lowered my gaze. It was stupid to not look where I was walking. If I tripped and fell on my fucking face I would make him pay.

"Move." Arowin's authoritative voice pulled me from my thoughts.

I immediately looked up and saw a guard standing in our way.

"Apologies, your grace. The queen has requested an audience." He spoke like a robot.

"We're on our way. She'll see us when we get there." Arowin said with annoyance as he began to walk around the guard.

"The queen requests an audience with the priestess, your grace." The guard stopped us again.

My brows furrowed slightly. What could this be about?

Arowin sighed.

"Wait here with Roena." He commanded the guard.

"The queen only wants the priestess, your grace." The guard replied.

His grip on my arm tightened if that were even possible.

"She doesn't leave my sight." Arowin gritted, as he stared down the guard.

"It is the queen's order." He replied in a professional tone, but I could sense amusement behind his eyes.

That look intrigued me.

Arowin's jaw clenched. He claimed I would never be anywhere without him, but it seemed he couldn't defy this. I actually wanted to see Ameela. Depending on her intentions maybe I could use this time away from Arowin to my advantage.

"It's fine." I said to him in a calm tone.

"No." He replied immediately as he looked down at me.

I rolled my eyes.

"Your queen has requested to see yours truly. I should be honored, no?" I exaggerated sarcastically in an attempt to break the tension. "I'll be fine." I nudged his side. "Besides, this is an order." I gestured towards the guard while nodding my head, which he then nodded in agreement. "See. The rules are the rules, so..." I shrugged while pulling my arm from his grip.

He loosened a little bit, and I thought I had gotten through to him, but seconds later he immediately snatched my wrist again. He was intensely staring into my eyes and breathing heavily.

Why was he acting like I was about to die? I mean, I could be tortured I suppose, but I wouldn't let anyone kill me.

"I suspected this wouldn't have been as easy as just sending a messenger." Ameela spoke as she neared us.

The guard knelt immediately and bowed his head.

"My queen." He said, loyalty seeping from his tongue.

I scoffed internally. How could someone be so brain dead? To blindly follow someone who claims to be superior to you? It's pathetic.

"Arowin, I need her for a moment. Rest assured she will be safe in my care." Ameela said smoothly.

He still hadn't released me, but I could tell he was fighting the urge to tell her no. He wasn't the king yet.

"Come." She spoke to me.
