"I just can't understand why you would break up with Jason, Emma. Your father told me to just let this go, but it's hard when you both seemed so perfect for each other," Emma's mother stated a few hours later as she drove her to theater rehearsal. She hasn't shut up about Jason since Emma came back home. Her mother was poking and prodding, trying to find out why Emma had suddenly ended the relationship.
"Then may I suggest letting it go, Mother? This is my choice, not yours," she whispered, trying to keep her voice leveled. She knew if she raised her voice at her mother, it would become a whole argument she didn't have time to worry about. It was nice to know that her father was on her side this time because she didn't feel like dealing with her mother. And honestly, she had too much on her mind at the moment to add that to the list of things for herself to worry about.
Her mother nodded her head while grumbling under her breath. "Ms. Prim told me Jason came home just devastated over the whole ordeal."
Emma sighed heavily. Of course, Jason would make sure to put on a show for his parents. She honestly expected nothing less from the nutcase. "Well, that's not my problem, Mother." Why did her mother feel the need to bring this up while she was trapped in a car with her? At least they were almost at the abandoned building, so she could escape this conversation. Her mother glanced at her out the corner of her eye. "Don't you think you're being a little harsh? I'm sure whatever he did, he's sorry about it."
She shook her head; there was no way Jason felt any pity for her.In fact, she was sure the only thing he felt for her now was hatred. She met her mother's eyes. "No, Mother, I don't think I'm being harsh. In fact, I don't think I'm being harsh enough." She could easily tell her mother about what he'd been doing, but she didn't want to mess up his whole life; she just wanted him to be away from her.
Hopefully now he would get the hint and move on. "Won't it make tonight's theater rehearsals awkward?"
Emma shrugged; there wasn't anything to worry about. After all, there wasn't any rehearsal, there never was.Emma watched as the old building came into view. "I'll be fine," she stated as they pulled up outside the building, parking. Emma opened her door. "I'll see you in a few hours, Mother." She climbed out of the car. Her mother sat in the car, watching her a few seconds, making her extremely nervous. But she finally drove away, and Emma was able to breathe easy once again before she began walking her usual way to The Underground.

"And I would really love if you guys could help me out," Emma said to Claire and Whitney as she came back around the bar, her tray now empty of drinks. She was about midway through her shift and was currently trying to convince the girls to take her to the mall to look for Christmas gifts tomorrow. She finally saved enough money to get good Christmas gifts. She had never gotten gifts for anyone for Christmas, and it would be nice to have them help her. Plus, a girls' day and time away from her parents was always nice.
"Sure, I'm in," Whitney smiled while filling a customer's glass. "Me too, it sounds fun," Claire nodded, making Emma smile. It was nice having other girls to hang out with. When she arrived, Niki let her know Chris and Kandy were officially on their trip, so now was the perfect time to start present hunting.
"What are you girls talkin' about?" Niki asked while leaning against the other side of the bar, a grin on her red lips.
Claire took Emma's empty tray, setting a few drinks on it. "Emma's just asking us to help her Christmas shopping," she said with a grin.Niki tilted her head, looking over at Emma. "Am I invited to the girls' day?"
Emma didn't really know Niki as much as Whitney and Claire. She'd been working alongside them for weeks now and had built a friendship. But she didn't see a reason why Niki couldn't be part of their little group too. "Sure, why not? I was thinking about going tomorrow. I'll just need to ride with someone there," she shrugged as she picked up her tray, now full of drinks.Whitney leaned against the bar, facing them, rubbing her chin. "Well, I live close to Claire and Niki. I'll just pick you all up; we'll all ride together in my car." They all nodded in agreement.
Emma couldn't wait to have a fun little get-together with her friends, but the real question was, would her parents really be okay with just letting her go off with strangers? We'll see what happens tomorrow.
(Mia note- Girls day!
