"Okay, everyone, I'll be passing you back your math tests. A lot of you did very well, however..." Ms. Jenkins said, walking down the rows of desks. She placed the graded papers on everyone's desks.
Emma leaned further back in her seat as Ms. Jenkins stopped beside her. "Some need to practice a little more," she said, placing the paper on Emma's desk. A big, red-circled 67 was marked at the top. Emma picked it up with a sigh before looking up at Ms. Jenkins and giving a small nod. The teacher returned the gesture with a smile before walking back to her own desk.
Emma sat her paper back down, sighing into her hands. She was already wondering how she was going to pass this class "Better luck next time, loser," Heather said, looking over from the desk beside her and laughing before flipping her brown hair over her shoulder.
Emma rolled her eyes, glaring at her. She had become an even bigger bitch since she became the new queen bee of the school. Emma didn't remember her being so awful when she was just Reina's shadow.
There was no time to worry about Heather, though; Emma was busy staring at her failure. Math was never easy for her, and this year seemed a lot harder than previous years. She was just happy it was the end of the day.
The bell rang loudly. "Okay, class, you're dismissed! Oh, and Emma, could you please wait a moment?"Most of the students rushed out while Emma slowly dragged her feet to the front desk. She played with her bookbag straps as Ms. Jenkins shook her head slightly. "Emma, I know you excel in all your other classes. It's still the beginning of the year, but I suggest getting a tutor, at least for the time being, until you can get the hang of it."
Emma sighed, looking down in shame. She knew Ms. Jenkins was right. She needed to solve this now before her grades got so bad she couldn't fix them. "Anyone specific in mind?" she asked, looking at Ms. Jenkins curiously. They both stayed silent for a moment, thinking over their options "I'm sorry to interrupt, but... I could help her."
They both turned their heads to the person in the doorway. Emma's brow raised in surprise. It was Reina, her bookbag on her back, her hair in a messy top knot, and her face looking unsure. "I'll help her," she repeated, making Ms. Jenkins smile in surprise.
Emma wasn't the only one who was shocked; she was confused as to why Reina would want to help her."Oh, Reina! Your grades have gotten significantly better this year. Something really changed in you; I'm very proud. But are you sure you're willing to tutor Emma for a while?"
Reina pressed her lips together, finally looking over at Emma. She wasn't wearing heavy makeup or her usual mini uniform. Emma guessed losing her popularity had knocked her down a few pegs. Reina looked back at Ms. Jenkins and nodded.
"Yes, I am. We can start immediately after school today. I know we have math homework; I can help her with that for starters." Emma shook her head quickly, interjecting and looking between them. They both looked at her curiously. "I can't after school, I have violin practice," she said.
Reina placed her hands on her hips. "Fine... how about I come over at 6?"
Emma thought it over for a minute before nodding hesitantly. Looking between them, Ms. Jenkins smiled and clapped her hands softly. "Fabulous! It looks like you've got yourself a tutor, Emma. You girls have a good rest of your day." She said before looking down at the papers on her desk. Both girls walked out of the room in silence. Reina began to speed walk down the hall. Emma didn't know what to say; she was kind of embarrassed about needing a tutor, and it made it worse that Reina was her tutor "Why are you helping me?" she whispered, stopping in the middle of the hall. Reina stopped a few feet away and turned, looking over her shoulder at Emma.
"An eye for an eye," she said simply before turning back around and walking out of the school building. Emma continued watching the door before Blake came up behind her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "My class just let out, you ready to go?" Pulling her eyes away from the door, she looked up at him with a small smile.
"Yeah... let's go."(Mia note- Build bridges not walls people remember that XOXO Mia
