"Surprise!" was the first thing yelled in Mona's face as she rushed into the police station. She clapped a hand to her chest, startled. "Holy feck!" she gasped, looking around at her fellow officers. Some held balloons that read "Congratulations!" Harry smiled and walked closer, along with Ms. Kit, who was clapping with a grin. James handed her a plate with a slice of cake.

She still had no idea what was going on. She had only rushed to the office because the necklace flash drive Emma gave her may have had more evidence to use against Jason in court.

Harry patted her on the back, and a few other officers chimed in "Congratulations!" She raised a brow at him, setting the slice of cake down. "For what? What's going on here?" James pulled a gold badge out of his pocket, handing it to her. She slowly took it from his hands, her thumb rubbing over the words: "Chief Mona O'Connor."

"Huh... I don't understand," she whispered, looking up to meet his eyes. He reached up, unclipping her old badge and handing it over to Harry. He put the new badge on her chest "You basically solved this case single-handedly. Everyone here agrees you're the best option for our next chief. Congratulations, Mona," he said with a warm smile.

She grinned widely. She never thought in a million years that she would become the chief of police. She threw her arms around him, hugging him close. Harry smiled, watching them.
"We already moved your things to your new office for you," Ms. Kit said with a grin.

She and James pulled apart. She looked down at the badge. Though she wished she could celebrate properly with everyone else, to her, the case wasn't over.

She wanted that bastard Jason to get the maximum sentence possible. She pulled the necklace out of her pocket, then turned and ran into her new office, leaving them standing there, surprised.
James and Harry followed after, standing in the doorway and watching as she started up the computer.

"What are you doing?" Harry asked, walking into the room. The computer finally turned on. "That Jason kid has already lawyered up, dragging Emma's name through the mud on TV. She wore this necklace when she was kidnapped. It records audio, and it turned on at some point. It may have something on here to lock him away for a long time. The work doesn't stop just because I became chief."

She typed away on the computer, and James ran over to watch the screen. She slid the flash drive into the port, biting her lip. There was only one file, and it was nine hours long. She opened the file, turning up the volume. The audio filled the room "He gave this to ya? How sweet," Heather's voice said.

Mona swallowed. So the necklace did get the interaction between Heather and Emma before the kidnapping. Grabbing the mouse, she skipped around in the audio, listening for Jason's voice.
"Go back a second. I think I heard him," James said. She went back a few seconds.

She heard what sounded like pacing, and then Jason's voice. "You think you're the first girl I killed? You're the sixth. And I'll get away with it, just like I've been doing for years, thanks to Mr. Gates."

Her eyes went wide as she looked over at James. They got what they needed: a straight-out confession. With this and the other evidence she got from Heather when she was back in the back of her police car, she would be able to take him down. She hoped he liked the color orange, because he would be wearing it the rest of his life.

"Bingo! Come on, we have a killer to lock up," she said, pulling out the flash drive and smiling at them before walking out of her office. They looked at each other, then followed after her.

"Jason Prim, you are under arrest for the five murders prior to the kidnapping and attempted murder of Emma Pear," James said as soon as Jason opened his front door. He wore a cocky smile on his lip, infuriating Mona even more.

"You have no proof I did any of those things. I'm not going anywhere," he said, turning to walk inside.

Mona grabbed onto the back of his shirt tightly. "You're a smug little git, thinking you could get away with this," she spat. "You're under arrest. Come along peacefully."

His mother walked downstairs, racing over to them. She tried to pull Mona's hands off him. "Let my son go! He would never hurt anyone! It's all lies! She's trying to ruin our family reputation!"
Harry, frustrated by her whining, pulled her away from Mona. James forced Jason's hands behind his back while Mona glared at the mother.

"Reputation? Is that what you're fuckin' worried about?" Mona said, her voice dropping low. "Five girls were murdered by your son since you moved over here. I suggest you don't try anything else, or we can bring you and his father in for covering up the murder of Tammy Little years ago. You thought covering it up and moving away could solve all your problems..."

His mother's eyes widened as she looked at her. Mona looked at her with absolute disgust. How could his parents let this go on for so long? They couldn't have been completely oblivious this whole time. Maybe they thought he could change by moving here, but they were wrong, and it had cost five girls their lives "You're just as much of a monster as your son," Mona said.

Harry let go of her, and she crumbled to the ground in tears. Harry stepped right over her, helping James drag Jason to the police car. Mona took a moment to watch his mother cry. She had no pity for her; she and his father had just as much blame in this as Jason.

She turned around, about to walk out the door. "If you or his father try to interfere in this case, you'll be the next ones up on the stand," she whispered, walking out and slamming the door behind her.
