Class finally ended for Emma. She sped walked through the hallway, books and folders piled high in her arms. At her locker, she tucked some books inside, filling her backpack with history texts. Today was her first day tutoring history at the elementary school. She felt a mix of excitement and nerves. She'd been informed she would be tutoring a little boy named Alex who had ADHD.
As she was closing her locker and slinging her bag over her shoulder, she heard someone call her name. Turning her head, she saw Chan Lee, captain of the football team, an all-time hottie, calling out to her. Her heart began pounding in her chest. He was the most popular guy in school—why would he be talking to her? For a second, she thought she might pass out. She looked around, thinking maybe he was talking to someone else, but he laughed softly, smiling, and waved her closer.
Her legs felt like jelly as she walked towards him, stopping right in front of him and his group of friends. "Emma, right?" Chan said with a wide smile, his perfect teeth shining. Geez, was this guy perfect? The answer was probably yes, Emma thought to herself.
"Yes, I'm Emma," she managed, pushing her bangs out of her eyes. The Mexican girl beside him, Reina, glared at Emma like dirt.Reina was one of the most popular girls in school, and apparently, Emma had just made her enemy list.
"Well, I don't know if you know this, but there's a dance coming up in a week… ya wanna go with me?" he asked shyly. Reina bit her red lower lip, looking away, clearly annoyed. Emma couldn't believe her ears. Was Chan Lee really asking her on a date right now? "Are you serious?" The words left her mouth without her even thinking.Chan looked down shyly, and his guy friends chuckled softly. "I mean, yes, but if you already have a date, it's fine...."
She hastily shook her head. "No, of course I don't… I mean, I would love to go with you!" She bit her lip, looking at him shyly. He grinned. "Cool."
He didn't break eye contact as he reached his hand out for his friend to hand him something. His buddy passed him a Sharpie.Chan reached for her hand. She hesitantly gave it to him, and he wrote a number on the back of her hand. "Text me," he winked at her before walking away with his group. Once he walked away, she felt like she could finally breathe again. She looked down at the number—it was his phone number. A big, goofy grin spread across her face as she walked out the front doors, making her way towards the elementary school.
A Hour Later...
Blake finished his after-school detention for coming to class late. He tossed the pink slip they wanted his parents to sign into a nearby trash can. There was no way he would tell his parents about being late because he was smoking in his car. Yeah, absolutely not happening.
The hallways were mostly empty now.As he walked outside, he passed a group of popular kids chatting. He could easily overhear their conversation.
"I can't believe you asked her to the dance and not me! You're into black chicks now?" The squeaky, high-pitched female voice filled the air, sounding like nails on a chalkboard.Glancing out of the side of his eye, he saw Chan Lee and some other random popular kids. He recognized Chan as being one of the biggest jerks he'd ever met. Chan would act sweet and kind to get what he wanted, but he was just an ass who talked crap about everyone and anyone 24/7. Blake had personally heard Chan call him a "freak" or "loner" on more than one occasion, and then try to pretend like they were cool right after.
He rolled his eyes at them as he got to his car."Reina, you don't have anything to worry about. It's all a prank. She's just a nerd; it'll be fun to play with her. You're not even my girlfriend anyway, so chill," Chan said dismissively.
Reina rolled her eyes at him. Her gaze flickered over to Blake, and she winked at him, licking her lips. "Well, I could always find a bigger dick to suck," she purred, loud enough for Chan to hear.
Blake just climbed into his car, sliding on his shades. He whispered, "In your dreams," before speeding out of the parking lot. Chan clearly had some evil plan, but as far as Blake was concerned, it wasn't his problem or his business.Mia note: We love a diverse cast of characters in a story right?
