"Don't think I've forgotten about what Chris told me when we first met. You're more of a motorcycle racing guy, soooo..." her voice trailed off, making him laugh as she undid her seatbelt. He nodded his head towards her as she opened the door, sliding out "So what, Em?"
She shrugged, a small grin on her lips. "Sooo, I have this in the bag for real."
He picked the keys up out of the cup holder, tossing them over to her. She caught them with one hand. "Cocky ass, just don't cry when you lose, baby." He got out of the car, coming around to the driver's side while she walked over to the flashy car, clicking the button on the keys, making the car's front lights blink. She looked back at Blake as the car door automatically opened."I thought you said it was illegal for me to drive without a license?" she yelled over to him, full of sarcasm. He turned, looking over at her, shrugging.
"That's what makes it fun... just don't get caught," he sent her a wink before getting in the driver's side door of his own car.Rolling her eyes, she got into the sport car. The door automatically closed behind her. Looking around the inside, everything looked shiny and new. It smelled like Chris inside, a faint scent of expensive leather and cologne. While looking around, she saw a start engine button. Clicking the button, the car came to life with a powerful growl, making her even more confident that she could win this race.
Rolling down her window, she drove towards the opening of the garage where Blake was already waiting for her. He rolled down his window. "Don't worry, Em, I know you like a good challenge, so I won't go easy on you," he said while looking at her out the passenger side window. It was weird being here, about to race, without Niki to drop the ribbon to start.
"We'll go on the count of three," he said. She nodded, looking forward, her heart already starting to pound. "One... two..." she started, before he could even get to three. Her car shot forward out of the garage, down the road, leaving a trail of smoke on the asphalt.
It took him a second to register that she planned on playing dirty to win. "Okay, Em, that's how you wanna play?" he whispered before speeding out of the garage after her.
Emma's hair whipped around her face as she sped down the highway, the wind a roaring blur outside the windows. Her hands were tight around the wheel. She took a moment to glance back in the rearview mirror. She saw Blake quickly coming up from behind, fast. It made her press harder on the gas pedal. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she weaved in and out of traffic, hearing the blare of honking horns.
Suddenly, the sound of beeping was heard beside her car. Glancing to her right, she saw Blake creeping up in the space beside her, his car a dark blur.
Looking back forward, she could see the sign for Galway Park coming up. Her palms started sweating as Blake pulled in front of her, swerving smoothly in front of her car. She tried to get around him, but every time she moved, he would block her path. She was quickly understanding how he won so many races in the past. He wasn't known as the best racer at The Underground for nothing.
Their cars whipped around the Galway Park sign. They were now racing side by side, neck and neck, back towards The Underground. It almost happened like a movie: Blake slowly passed her. He sped through the door of the garage a second quicker than her, coming to a slow stop, followed by her.
She parked Chris's car back in its previous spot, pouting. She was so sure she could win. Once she parked the car, she leaned back into the seat, crossing her arms before climbing out. He walked over to where she stood, pouting, a cocky grin on his lips.
"Aw, don't pout, Em." He went to wrap his arms around her. She pushed him away, turning her body around with a huff. She hadn't actually wanted him to go easy on her in the race; she was just messing around with him at this point.
He wrapped his arms around her, laying his head on her shoulder. "Don't be upset. I won't cash in my prize just yet. You want some food now, hmm?" She turned in his arms, grinning up at him, unable to maintain her fake annoyance.
He laughed at her smiling face. "You weren't even upset, were you?"
She shook her head while pulling away. "You're becoming a pretty good liar, Em. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing," he took her hand, leading her back over to his car.He was right. She never used to lie before meeting him, but if lying got her more time with him, then she would lie every day... till her very last breath.
