An Hour Prior...

"What am I missing!?" Mona yelled suddenly, slapping her palms against the messy table and startling her dog. She looked at Champ beside her, scratching his head. "Sorry, bud," she sighed, picking up one of the black leather gloves.

She had been looking over all the evidence for hours, to the point it was now completely dark outside. She was sure she was missing something and refused to move until she found out what it was. Harry had left an hour ago to go to his shift at the police station, leaving this up to her. He had wanted to stay, but if he did, Mr. Gates might suspect something, so she made him leave. She promised to keep him updated and to call if she found something important.

Mona zoned out while looking over the black material. Champ bit the glove, taking it out of her hand. He shook it around in his mouth.

"No, Champ, this is important stuff," she said, taking it away. It was now turned slightly inside-out. It dawned on her that she had forgotten to turn the gloves inside out to check.

She turned the glove completely inside-out, looking it over closely. There was nothing important on the inside; it was just a normal glove, the one left in the shed at the school. She set the glove back on the table before picking up the other one and turning it inside-out as well.

The finger part of the second glove instantly caught her attention. There were a few colored chips of paint stuck to the inside "What's this..." she whispered, pulling the glove closer to eye level. "Light blue nail polish..." Her eyes widened. This meant the person who killed Reina was female.

Something about the color looked familiar. She used her other hand to push around the papers she had found inside Reina's locker. The papers had been shredded beyond belief, but she had pieced them all back together with tape. She picked up the birthday card with the three young girls together.

"No way... it can't be," she whispered, looking between the girls in the picture and the glove. She eyed the girls' hands; one of the girls had nail polish on—light blue nail polish.

She quickly stood up, her eyes widening. Her gaze moved across the table before returning to the card. Then she noticed the handwriting on the card. She dropped the glove back on the table, picking up the news clipping that had been sent to Emma.

The handwriting was exactly the same. The exact same. It could be a coincidence, but it was the biggest lead she had so far. Would Reina's friend really kill her? From what Mona had learned, Reina was a popular girl up until she got pregnant. She and the two other girls in the picture had been friends.

It was possible the girl had gotten jealous enough to kill Reina. If that was the case, the girl could also be the same person who had been threatening Emma. They all went to the same school, after all. It was unlikely there were two teenage killers at the school. There was a motive for her to want both of them dead. The worst part was that the girl was still in the school with Emma. If she was the killer, it was only a matter of time until she struck again.

Everything was pointing toward this girl being the killer. She needed to bring her in for questioning to get to the bottom of this before it was too late. She put down the card, picking up the chief's bank records. She looked at the dates; a few days after Reina's death, the chief was given a large sum of money. Someone wanted to get rid of the evidence of Reina's death.

She pushed a hand through her hair. The news clipping mentioned a boy named Jason. He could be a part of this, too. He used to date Emma for a short while and seemed unhinged. The girl in the newspaper death had happened a few years ago. Her eyes quickly looked to the chief's bank information; a few months after that girl's death, money started going into the account.

She needed to call Harry. He could look into the card information to see who owned the card that was giving money to the chief. Find the card, find who's behind all this. She set everything back down, picking up her phone. He instantly picked up. "Hello, Ms. O'Connor? Have you found anything else? It's safe to talk; Chief's not in right now."

Mona explained that she was onto something while pacing back and forth. "I think I know who's behind all this, but I need you to look up something for me. Are you by your computer?" Harry told her to wait a moment. He ran over to his desk, booting it up. Once it started, she gave him the card information. He jumped into action, searching it up on his computer.

"It says the card belongs to someone named... Jason Prim. He's eighteen. There are no criminal records on him, but there is a news article mentioning him a few years back. Apparently, people thought he was the killer of a young girl at the time. There wasn't any proof to link him to the murder, so he didn't get jail time. I also see a few months after all the allegations, his family moved. He's currently living in the area with his parents. Chief got his first large payment around the time of the allegations. I guess he couldn't hold back from killing. There are five large payments a few years after his move here. Sadly, I have a feeling they are all girls he killed that the chief had covered up." She heard him typing away on his computer.

It all made sense. Of course, if your son's accused of murder, any parent would want to skip town. She sat back down, thinking over the whole situation. This kid had gotten away with this for so long. And he would have kept doing it if she wouldn't have moved here. It would have all gotten covered up by Mr. Gates and forgotten about.

"The bastards," she whispered, sickened by the truth.

She sighed, finally satisfied with the evidence she had been able to gather these past few months. Finally, she would be able to sleep well at night. She was going to bring both these kids in, and she would get justice for all those girls' families. She hummed, pulling on her shoes, throwing her hair into a ponytail.

"I think I know who the killer of Reina is, and this Jason guy may be working with her... it's a girl that goes to school with Emma. I believe her name's Heather Jenkins. It's prom tonight at the school; I believe she'll be there. We need to take her in before something bad happens." The young girl could be unstable, and once a killer strikes, they usually did it more than once. She thought, putting a pair of handcuffs in her pajama pocket, before hearing a beep on her phone. She pulled the phone away from her ear, seeing it was a text from Blake.

Blake - Track my phone Emma has been kidnapped my friend Chris is currently chasing one of the culprit near the school

Her eyes widened before she jumped up from the couch. Had they already run out of time? Was it too late? She put the phone back to her ear.

"Harry! I need you to track this phone number (264)581-9476! Send me the location updates. We need to stop a kidnapping! Bring Ms. Kit and Mr. Hatter with you. I'll meet you when I can." She ran out the front door, not caring to change out of her night clothes. She ran to her police car, throwing the door open.

"What about you? Where are you going, Ms. O'Connor?" she heard him ask through the phone. Starting up the car, she headed in the direction of the school. "I'm gonna catch a killer." She said before hanging up, jetting down the road.
