Interlude 5

It was already morning, and I was the first one to wake up of all the people who were still sleeping in that big room, where the sunlight could enter and illuminate from all sides through a huge window. Stretching my arms to start my first day of the year, as I was trying to keep a positive attitude, I yawned and rubbed my eyes hesitantly, as I was still a bit tired.

I checked my phone, which was right next to me, only to realize that the current time was 11:20 A.M.

I was so surprised that I had slept until such an hour, that I started to feel kind of bad about myself for being so lazy. But then again, I thought it was fine, so I didn't think much of it, it was our winter vacation after all.

Turning my peripheral vision, I could notice one of the most important people in my life, and who I usually "take care of" -if you can call it like that-, sleeping peacefully while snuggling with the big blanket on the futon we were both sleeping on.

Geez, again being cute even without knowing it... You're amazing, Hiromi.

I thought as I grabbed my phone to take a picture of that moment, as I wanted to treasure that view that not every day I could see. At the same time, a rather stupid smile showed on my face as I was still trying to process what was going on around me.

However, while I was taking that picture of Hiromi, I managed to catch something within my peripheral view. Something that I really never expected to see in my life, and that maybe, and only maybe, would be the only time I would be able to see it.

There they were, so close together that you could tell they were very much a couple. Even if that wasn't the case, I really thought it might happen sooner or later.

They were sleeping so close to each other that it was unthinkable to see them being so intimate. So much so that I came to think my nose was going to bleed from how adorable the sight was.

Takacchi and Kimigawacchi, two of my rather close friends, were sleeping next to each other on the floor, almost cuddling. Both were wearing Takacchi's scarf, and both were sharing the same blanket. In fact, they seemed to be so intimate with each other that they were lightly hugging each other, with Kimigawacchi being the one who was close to Takacchi's chest.

When I saw such a scene, I couldn't help but think:

Both of you deny having something between you, and act this way... You two really can't be honest with yourselves....

Although it's not like I can't be either, anyway.

I said to myself as I looked at them with a nervous smile, and then a great idea occurred to me. Something that would allow me to immortalize that moment for posterity, and for future reactions from both of them.

I pointed my phone in the direction they were facing, opened the camera app, and took one... No, about three photos that were the exact same, in case one went wrong. Soon after, I uploaded them to a cloud server to keep them there in case something happened to my phone.

I should send it to Kimigawacchi after this... But she might get mad at me for it though.

I thought, and flashed a mischievous smile, trying not to wake them up.

I stared at them for a few minutes, until I thought:

Hopefully you can be honest with yourselves soon... You really need it, or you might get hurt. But well, I'm not one to say something like that, am I?

Thinking this, I really wanted from the bottom of my heart to see that pair of lovebirds be happy together, even though they're always denying what it's obvious they feel for each other.

Although, they seem to be distracted enough not to realize that something was born there between them. As I thought that sort of thing, I sighed and thought for the last time:

I think it would be best to stay as a spectator, and let them deal with their own issues themselves.

Nodding towards my own idea, I decided to get up and go wash my face.

Sometime later, the rest woke up. By then, the pair of lovebirds that were Takacchi and Kimigawacchi had separated in their sleep, and no trace of that scene had remained, apart from my photo, which I wouldn't send yet.

At that time, we had a rather largelunch, taking advantage of the fact that we didn't had breakfast. And everything went on like that until the day was over and, sometime later, we went back to school again.
