3rd person POV:
(The next day)
"And then I went like "watch this!" and hit him with my venom blast! and then I kicked the other two and-" Gwen laughed "Calm down Morales, I was there too" Miles scratched the back of his head in typical fashion. They had just stopped a bog robbery at a bank the day prior, and Miles was praised by his own dad for it (obviously he doesn't know it's his son behind the mask). "Sorry. It's just great to crime fight for once without one of us almost dying or something" He says, to the laughter of Gwen. "Well cherish it Spider-boy, it doesn't come often." Miles pouted "It's Spider-Man!" Gwen stuck her tongue out at him. "We'll see Miles. We'll see" The two walked to class, where they had a biology.
-Time skip
They head off to lunch, and they are heading to their usual spot, the tree next to the bleachers, outside the football field. As they head over, someone yells "MORALES!" The two look back, and horror seeps into Miles's eyes. The one person he never wanted to see again. The one person he thought he could escape forever. But there he was, standing in the middle of the canteen, in all his arrogant boy glory, Flash Thompson. He strolls over to Miles, and slightly pushes the boy. Gwen could tell the boy wasn't comfortable, and from the look on his face, these two had history. She could see his fists clench, and to prevent him from losing control and potentially sending this boy to the hospital, she grabbed his arm. "What are you doing here Flash?" Miles blurts out. "Why, playing football against your school obviously," Flash responded, pointing to his badge. "Obviously you would never know anything about football, you were always the geek." He smirked at Miles. Gwen's blood boiled. She didn't know who this boy was, but it was taking every ounce of control she had over herself to not throw this arrogant boy into downtown. And to her surprise, the boy turned to her.
"Well hello beautiful", he said, wiggling his eyebrows at her. Gwen tried her best not to gag. This was your typical jock you would see in the movies. Trying to flirt with girls, thinks he's cool, but in reality he just looks cringe and unlikeable. "How about you go with me instead of Morales here?" He said, and Gwen grabbed Miles's arm more tightly, as she noticed a sparkle of his 'venom' lighting in his hand. "Can't speak? Probably because you set your standard too low at Morales here. Just leave this loser and come with me, I'll be better than this loser ever will be." He put his hand on her shoulder, and that's when she snapped. She kung-fu style pulled on the arm on his shoulder, flipped him around, and threw him into a nearby water fountain., leading to laughs and chuckles from people watching. "That's my boyfriend you're talking about," She snapped at him, "he's better than your stupid ass ever will be. Miles's let's go" She said behind her shoulder, and she basically had to drag Miles away from the scene, as the boy seemed almost frozen, with a look Gwen couldn't quite read. This worried Gwen, since she was great at reading people, especially Miles, who was always an open person.
They sat down under the tree, and Gwen noticed Miles's eyes were sparkling with unshed tears. She hugged him tightly. "Let it out, Miles, let it out." She said, and Miles hugged her back, and she patted his bushy hair and smiled as she felt the tears soak her shoulder. She was happy he's letting his emotions out, but now she had to find the reasoning behind it. "What was that all about?" She asked. Miles took a raspy breath, before responding in a broken voice. Hearing this broke Gwen's heart. She loved Miles to the ends of the Earth, and hearing him like this just didn't feel right to her. Miles was supposed to be the happy, innocent childish boy, yet now in front of her sat a kid that seemed to be going through absolute hell, and she didn't know how to help. "It's all in the past. The past......" Miles said. That line struck close to home for Gwen, and a chill ran through her spine as he said so, especially with Miles's voice. But she shook her head. Now wasn't the time to be having her problems. She had to help Miles. "You're not over it are you though?" She asked gently, not wanting to shake Miles more than he already was. "It's fine..." Miles said through the tears. "Miles you can't run from your problems Miles," She said "You can't run from your past. You have to deal with it, as harsh as it sounds." She then pinched herself as she realized.... She could really apply that to herself as well.
"Fine," Miles finally gave in. Taking a deep breath to compose himself slightly. He looked up at Gwen's warm and patient smile, and he couldn't help but smile back. Despite what was going through his mind, he couldn't help but smile when he saw her smile. "One sec. Did you call me your boyfriend earlier?" He chuckled even through his raspy throat. "Yes?" Gwen slightly blushed as she said so. "We haven't made that official though," Miles said, to her confusion. "We've kissed like so many times and shit. How are we not dating?" She asked. "We haven't said so," Miles laughed, and the girl rolled her eyes. "Ok. Miles Morales, will you be my boyfriend, and me your girlfriend?" Miles nodded, and she hugged him. "Now that's done....." She said, turning her face to face Miles's, "Spill"
So here's chapter 44! How'd you feel about this?
Also Flash isn't gonna return..... from what I've planned he's most likely a one-off character in this story.
P.S. Also don't expect daily updates for a bit, I'll still be trying my best to update if I can, but I'm feeling a bit burned out and tired recently, especially with school, so I might take a break and not update as usual. I'm not too sure myself. But don't worry, it won't be a hiatus, I just won't be updating every single day I've done so far. Once I feel better, it'll return. Sorry if anyone doesn't like this but I do need a break. Thanks!
