The glee kids are down in the dumps following their disappointing showing at nationals, so Will assigns them a project to get them back on track. A person from a rival group joins McKinley and joins New Directions.

Later, Will, Ashleigh, and Burt were watching Sue on TV...
"Burt Hummel claims he doesn't have a baboon heart. He claims he isn't married to a donkey. Well, which is it, Burt Hummel? Baboon heart or donkey bride? Donkeys have no place in politics. They bite off children's fingers and pee absolutely anywhere. Do we really need another Washington politician married to a pack animal? Don't let Burt Hummel make an ass out of you, Ohio. I'm Sue Sylvester, and it's not personal."
"Will, you are supposed to be helping Ashleigh. You have to do something about this. She's killing us!" Burt shouted.
"Burt, you're on the right side of the issues voters care about. You know what it's like to run a small business. When the recession hit, you took a pay cut, so you didn't have to fire a single employee." Ashleigh said.
"If we don't start fighting fire with fire, we're all gonna lose. I'm going to lose the race. You're going to lose your job. And you're going to lose Glee." Burt tells them.
"We know that, Burt. We know." Ashleigh muttered.
"Then put your thinking caps on." Burt says.
Ashleigh looked up from the ground, staring at the TV screen.
With Shelby, she was putting the cot together while Puck held Beth...
"Sorry, I should probably be helping more. I didn't know the directions were gonna be the foreign kind with weird pictures instead of English." Puck tells her.
"It's okay. She likes you. You're good with her." Shelby said.
"That's 'cause she's the best little girl in the whole world. Oh! Oh, where'd it go? Isn't that right, monkey face?" Asked Puck.
Shelby chuckles, taking Beth from him.
"Um, I gotta be clean about something. When Quinn and I babysat for you, she put a bunch of stuff around here to make you look like an unfit mother, and then she called Child Protective Services. But I came and got rid of it." Puck said.
"Why would she do that to me?"

"Because she wants Beth back again. I did, too. I thought we'd be, you know, good parents. It was wrong, stupid, and totally selfish. I'm really, really sorry. I... we always thought of Beth as an accident. But she's no accident. Quinn and I gave her life... but somehow God, nature, or whatever... meant for you and her to be together. You were always meant to be her mother. I'd like to be part of her life, too." Puck tells her.
The next morning, Will ran into the auditorium...
"Hello, everyone, to day one of the first annual McKinley High Mash-Off! Ashleigh will represent New Directions as discussed by her group and Santana the Troubletones for a rock-paper-scissors face-off and see who goes first! Let's get goin'!" Will shouted.
