Hyunjin's POV :-
As I leaned in, a flutter of nervous excitement mixed with longing stirred in my stomach. I closed my eyes and pressed my lips to hers, savoring the softness and warmth of her mouth. It was the first day of our second year at university, and I had missed my girlfriend so much. We stood by my locker, lost in the moment, our bodies pressed close as we shared our affection. The world around us faded away, and all that mattered was this sweet embrace.
She looked beautiful, with her swollen red lips, flushed cheeks from blushing too much, and her messy hair.
As I admired her, a sudden burst of shouting from a nearby corner jolted us. The hallway was usually silent this early, but now it was filled with commotion.
We followed the noise and saw three boys surrounding someone who looked younger and vulnerable. I couldn't see his face, but it was clear they were bullying him.
The boy with the brunette hair glared down at the younger one, a smirk on his face. "You think you can mess with us, shorty?" he taunted, before punching the younger boy in the stomach. The younger one grunted in pain.
Despite the pain, the younger boy managed a strange, almost amused smile. His reaction confused me.
"And who do you think you are, dickhead?" the younger boy shot back, his deep voice echoing strongly despite his small stature. There was a sense of familiarity in his voice, giving me déjà vu.
"Oh, so now you're brave enough to insult him while you're surrounded?" the blonde boy taunted, grabbing the younger boy’s hair to force him to look up. The younger one grinned mockingly, clearly unafraid.
He started giggling, which puzzled everyone, including me. "I figured out that you dogs are just barking because you’re too cowardly to bite," he said before spitting in the blonde's face. The brunette responded by hitting him repeatedly.
My girlfriend turned to me with a worried look. "Aren't you going to do anything?" she whispered. I nodded, signaling my intention to help.
But before I could act, the younger boy landed a swift kick between the brunette’s legs and ran off. The bullies were left stunned as he made his escape.
The brunette yelled, "Fuck you, piece of shit!" as the younger boy disappeared down the hallway.
"That was weird," I remarked. My girlfriend agreed. We were already running late, so we decided to head to our class.
Walking to class, I couldn’t shake the thought of the younger boy. He felt oddly familiar, as if I had met him before. I could have intervened, but I was too preoccupied with the boy's expressions and the unsettling familiarity they evoked. His twisted smile in the face of pain was both confusing and strangely compelling.
I mentally shook myself and entered the classroom.
I was 15 minutes late. Our professor sighed but let me in, accustomed to my tardiness.
I sat in the back, took out my books, and began to take notes. A boy entered the classroom and apologized to the professor. I barely looked up, focused on my work.
"I'm extremely sorry, Professor. I got lost in the hallway and couldn’t find anyone to ask about the class," the boy said.
"It’s your first day, Mr. Lee, so I’ll let it slide, but make sure to arrive on time in the future. Please introduce yourself to the class," the professor replied.
That voice—it was the same one I heard in the hallway. I looked up, and my eyes widened.
“F-e-lix?”
"Hi class, I’m Lee Felix, your new classmate. I just returned from Australia after living there for a few years. I hope we all get along," he said with a smile.
