Hyunjin's pov:-
The wind is warm, the clouds are clear, and the birds sing a familiar, pleasant tune as I lay under a tree in the University Garden. It’s a peaceful place where I can reflect, surrounded by nature's quiet beauty. I wonder how many stories this tree has heard, how much love it holds in its branches.
After finishing my lectures, I came here for a break. I may seem disconnected, but I have a deep connection with nature, art, and poetry. My thoughts have been a mess since I saw him again.
"Aren’t you hungry, Hwang? Or have you been eating leaves?"
"Well, hello to you too, Lee Minho," I reply, opening my eyes to see him standing next to me.
"Get up. We’re going to eat," he says, offering me his hand.
"You know, the last time I took your hand to get up, I ended up with back pain for two weeks," I say.
"What? I offered my hand, and you were taking too long, so I decided to take it back," he says with an innocent expression that’s anything but.
"Oh yeah? Of course, how could a person like you do such things?"
I accept his hand. *Boom*
"LEE MINHOOOOOOOOO!" I yell, holding my back. He did it again. I don’t know when I’ll learn my lesson, but it hurts like hell.
"Hi, Hyunjin," he says with a cute tone.
I manage to get up on my own and start running—well, attempting to run. "Whoever reaches the cafeteria last pays for lunch!"
Races to the cafeteria have always been our thing. I met Minho a few years ago. If I had to describe him, I’d say, "a softie who pretends not to care." We only have a few classes together, but spending time with him is one of my favorite things.
I reach the cafeteria and find a table in the corner. At least I won the bet. I smile, thinking about it.
"Hi, Hyunjin."
"Oh, hi, Binnie," I say, giving him a smile.
"Actually, Minho hyung is sitting with us and is waiting for you over there," he says, pointing to a table filled with people.
I look over and see Minho talking with others.
"Oh, okay, thanks, Binnie. Let’s go," I say, getting up.
If Minho is sitting at their table, there’s only one reason: the guy he’s been crushing on since our first year, Han Jisung is present today. No one except me knows about his crush. He might look confident, but he’s always a coward in these matters.
When I reach the table, the guy Minho is crushing on is nowhere to be seen. Instead, there's a new guy.
"Hi, Bang Chan," I say, sitting next to Minho.
"Wassup, Hyunjin," he replies with a big smile, which makes me smile too. He’s always the cheerful one. I know Bang Chan, Changbin, and Jisung because of Minho, the social butterfly.
"Here’s your drink and your lunch," Minho says, handing me the food.
I nod and start eating. "And why exactly are we sitting here today?" I whisper to Minho.
"Oh right, remember the junior I told you about? The one who was with me in high school?" he asks.
"Yeah, he was coming here this year," I say, stuffing my mouth with food.
"So I wanted you to meet him. It’s Yang Jeongin, or you can call him IN," he says, pointing to the new guy.
"Oh, hey," I say.
"Hi, Hyunjin hyung," Jeongin answers with a fox-like smile. I notice his eyes are puffy, but it would be rude to ask, so I let it slide.
"He already knows Chan and Binnie?" I ask Minho.
"No, he met them today. Some jerks messed with him, but luckily someone helped him. Bang Chan found him, got concerned about his red eyes from crying, and ended up taking care of him. Now he’s here," Minho explains.
"So you found out who those jerks were or who helped him?" I ask.
"No, but I’ll look into it after my class ends," Minho says.
I nod. I usually sit with my girlfriend or just Minho during breaks, but I guess this year is about trying new things.
"Don’t tell me you all started eating without us," Han says, approaching our table.
"Come on, I never thought I’d see the day," he whines.
"Han-ah, calm down. See, I’ve been waiting for you," Minho says, showing his food.
"What were you both even doing?" Bang Chan asks, handing Han his food.
"Actually, I got lost coming here and my phone died, so Hannie had to go through the whole block to find me," The guy next to Han says, taking his place next to me while Han sits next to Minho.
"Channie, I told him this morning to stay put and wait for me in his class," Jisung pouts.
"I’ve apologized a hundred times. I just wanted to explore," comes the reply.
"Wait, Minho Hyung, he’s the guy who helped me this morning," Jeongin says, pointing at Minho. "Thank you so much. I don’t know what I would have done without you."
"Are you okay now? I was so worried. I’m sorry I didn’t check up on you. It’s my first day here, so I didn’t know the classes," The guy next to me speaks.
"Hey, don’t apologize. I appreciate your help. Chan hyung found me and took care of me until I was ready for class," Jeongin says.
"I owe you a lot, man!" Minho says.
I turn to see who’s sitting next to me. It’s him. My eyes widen. All of a sudden, everything around me blurs, and I can only focus on him. He’s still as beautiful as ever—his eyes like twinkling stars, his smile like no other, and his freckles peeking through his light makeup. Once again, I forget how to breathe.
"-Okay? Are you okay, Hwang?" Minho snaps his fingers in front of me.
"Oh, um—yeah, I’m good. Why?" I try not to sound stupid, though I obviously fail.
"You just suddenly zoned out, bro," Han says, looking concerned.
"I’m sorry. It’s nothing. I’m good, guys. I promise," I say with a small smile. Everyone believes me except Minho. I know he’ll ask me about it later, so I need to be ready with an excuse.
"Guys, I’m going to use the restroom," Felix says.
"There’s no way I’m letting you go alone," Jisung says with his mouth full.
"Yeah, don’t go alone. It’s not safe, especially after your fight. I’ll take care of it, but for now, stay safe. Take Hyunjin with you; he’s already done eating," Minho says seriously.
Yeah, he’s right. Students here can be worse than criminals. Wait, me? What? Me? I’m pretty sure I’m the reason he wants to leave this place.
"Thank you for your concern, hyung, but I’ll be fine," Felix says, trying to smile.
"Lixie, he’s right. Listen to him," Chan says.
"Fine, let’s go, whoever you are," Felix says without even looking at me.
Wow. So now he’s going to pretend he doesn’t know me?
"Yeah, sure," I say, getting up from my seat.
It’s going to be fun. I missed him so much.
