The lights clicked on in the distance as Mat and Cellbit walked slowly down the archives central hallway.
The time was eleven thirty, and the rest of the Agency was headed home. But not them. They had more important matters to deal with.
Or, at least Cellbit did. Mat still wasn't convinced.
The plan was simple. At least on paper. He'd join Cellbit to search the restricted cabinets, and once it was revealed he was wrong, he'd report Cellbit to the Agency.
And, if he was right..
Well, he didnt know what he would do.
They continued to walk slowly down the hallway, neither of them speaking. After a moment however, Mat had a question he had to ask.
Mat cleared his throat, gaining cellbits attention. "So.." he began, turning to look at cellbit. "How, did, you get that level ten access card?" He asked.
Cellbit grinned. He shrugged. "Well, I was in the locker rooms late one night, when a federation worker entered."
Mat cocked an eyebrow. "Federation worker?" He asked, confused.
Cellbit glanced back at Mat. "Oh, the federation is what they call their secret operation." He stated. "They basically have a huge set of workers in this underground base researching the city down there."
Mat listened closely. He still didn't exactly believe him, but it was intriguing.
Cellbit continued. "All the workers down there are called Cucorucho. They wear these weird masks to keep their identity hidden, too. It's essentially a cult." He spoke with a serious tone.
Mat glared at him. At this point he was sure that Cellbit was insane, since everything he was saying sounded like complete bullshit.
Yet he said it so confidently, he had to believe it to be true. No one would go this far if they knew they were wrong, so maybe Cellbits crazier than he first thought.
Mat sighed, turning to look back infront of him as they continued to walk.
He could feel Cellbits eyes on him. He seemed to be contemplating something.
Mat brushed it off. It didn't matter. He just had to get in there, get his evidence on Cellbit, and get out. And then he wouldn't have to worry anymore.
Eventually, they passed the Z section of the archives. The last aisle was behind them, and a door infront of them. The two detectives stopped and stood there, staring at it as Mat took a sip of his coffee.
The door stood at the very end of the hall, the number ten displayed on the front. This was where all confidential and top secret information was held. Only people with the highest level of clearance were aloud in there. And apparently, along with all the government and top secret files, was the proof Cellbit needed for his crazed conspiracy.
Cellbit smirked. Mat glared at the cat hybrid as Cellbit reached into a pocket on his brown leather coat, pulling out a level ten access card.
Mats eyes instantly locked onto it.
Now, he had been fairly skeptical about the idea that Cellbit had a card of that high a clearance level. And yet, there it was.
The fact that he has it, means he was telling the truth about taking it from someone. But, was it really who he said it was?
If he's as crazy as Mat thinks he could be, then he wouldn't put it past Cellbit to have imagined some weird masked employee. Instead of maybe, a politician that would have a level ten access card. That would be the only explanation.
