×Sam POV×
I knew Dean wouldn't react well to Angie's memory loss but I had absolutely misjudged his coping mechanisms.
Last time when Angie was gone after the fight, he had practically cracked his own hook-up record with women who resembled her. Dean had been drinking even more unhealthier amounts of alcohol than usual and he was almost agressive during hunts.
I remembered that back then, I thought it couldn't get any worse. But this, this was a catastrophe.
My brother was laying on the bed, his arms crossed and his eyes closed as if he was in a casket. Honestly, he was acting as if he was dead.
For the 24th time in a row, "Angel" by Robbie Williams was blasting so loud through his headphones that even I could hear everything.
Dean hadn't tried once to pick up some chick at a bar.
We had no clue where Michaels sword might be that presumably could put Lucifer pack in the cage.Dean didn't seem to care about the angels anymore, especially now that Castiel engraved runes in our skeleton so that no angel would be able to find our location.
Ultimately, Dean also didn't care about the devil wandering on earth. It wasn't like he was crying or complaining nonstop, he just seemed like his motivation to do.. well, anything at all was completely gone.
The only comfort he allowed himself was food. Pie, especially.
"Can you go get some grub?", Dean asked, not even opening his eyes. But he knew I was there anyways, he knew I was watching him like he was ill and I needed to be there for him.
I got up and reached for his phone to turn down the music.
"Dean. This has to stop.", I told him softly.
"What? I'm not doing anything."
"Exactly. It's like you gave up on yourself.", I argued and his eyes finally flung open.
He wouldn't say it out loud but I knew that he was thinking it: Angie had given up on him first.
Dean had felt like love wasn't in the cards for him even before her but now his worst fears have only been confirmed. That it was too late for him.
And honestly, that was bullshit because if he could've learned one thing out of getting to know Angie and building a relationship with her it's that anything was possible if the connection was there. I was convinced he could do it again, be happy with someone else.
But certainly not if he only got out of bed to do the bare minimum for hunts.I told Dean that Castiel had called - it was unusual that he actually had to ask where we were and that we knew he'd be visiting - and that he wanted to have an important conversation with us.
My brother didn't want to let the angel in but I knew we had to. We owed Cas that much. Although I didn't give up and got back to drinking demon blood yet, I still felt like there was truth to what our dad had asked Dean to do: If my brother would've killed me when he found out what I'd done with Ruby, the apocalypse wouldn't be happening.
I'd been naive.
"What do ya want from us, Cas?", Dean gruffled, heading towards the mini-fridge in our motel room.
