×Sam POV×
Angie didn't make a noise on the backseat of the Impala, not even when Dean noticably got off the route to a new destination.
"Pulling over for something to eat, my stomach has been growling for over an hour.", my brother commented.
It was probably smart to get something real to eat since Rufus warned us that the whole town seemed to be overrun by demons.
To hope that some diner was still open there was foolish."Good idea.", I heard from behind me and I was glad Angie was responding again. She seemed so mentally absent that it made me worry.
Dean pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant and quickly scanned the menu that was on an enlightened board.
"You want the salad with chicken breast, Sammy?"It didn't come as a surprise to me that Dean would know what I wanted to get before I knew. I sighed.
"Yeah, the big one. And a water."My brother nodded, grabbed his wallet and reached for the door when he noticed that Angie was shifting too.
"Oh, it's alright. You can stay here.", he told her and got out before she even answered, probably wanting to be nice and to spare the walk.I looked over my shoulder to Angie and although her body rested calm, her eyes were following Dean.
Something was wrong.
She noticed that I had turned around and she wrapped her hands around her upper body to shield herself.I was just about to ask if she was okay when she spoke up first.
"Why did he do that?", she wanted to know.
"Why did he do what?"
"Does he think.. does Dean think that I got too heavy?"
Angie's question sounded curious but there was hurt bleeding through.
I was shocked, thinking about how she possibly came to that conclusion, slowly realizing Dean didn't specifically asked what she wanted to eat because usually Angie just took whatever.I searched for a better way to start this conversation but she was faster once again.
"Or is it because I'm just half human?"
Angie must've asked this question because she genuinely wasn't sure. Otherwise she always tiptoed around the topic, always trying to appear as human as possible in order to make people forget that in fact, she wasn't.Angie swallowed audibly, not daring to look at me and that's when I knew she had actually wanted me to confirm her first suspicion because us not seeing her as a person who had basic human needs and rights was even worse than Dean trying to make her go on a diet that she didn't need.
"Get in the drivers seat please.", I told her softly.
We wouldn't talk about this while I had to give myself a neck cramp and she felt like a little girl on the backseat while her parents were driving and controlling her meals.
Definitely not doing that. For a second I feared that once she got out of the car to switch, she would just take off but I relaxed once I heard the door open again.
Hesitantly, Angie dropped onto the seat next to me. First things first.
"Dean is getting you something to eat.", I assured her.She raised a brow, probably internally analyzing if I was saying the truth but I slowly nodded to underline my statement.
"Then why didn't he ask me what to get?""It's a habit from before.", I answered vaguely but I knew it wouldn't be enough to count as an explanation.
"You struggled with eating because you thought you didn't deserve the food, so Dean and I always decided on a meal for you and brought it with whenever we ate ourselves."
