Riley POV

Today had been an okay day. I'm a little tired and I'm trying to put my stuff away in my locker but I'm slow. Getting to my locker is not super fun. School just ended so the hallway is flooded with people, including my bullies who are walking right in front of me. Every time they stop out of the blue and then push me backward before laughing. I can't wait for them to die or something. I mean I would never wish something like that on people but they get on my nerves so bad.

When I finally get to my locker someone is standing in front of it. ''Excuse me?'' I say softly and he turns around. I never saw him before but he looks nice.

''Yes?'' He asks with a kind voice.

''You're right in front of my locker,'' I say trying to sound as kind as possible.

''Oh my, I'm sorry.'' He says before moving away and I smile at him before moving to open my locker. ''You have a pretty smile'' he says and my movements stop for a second making me drop some of the books in my hand. ''Oi, I'm sorry, I just wanted to compliment you! I didn't mean anything with it, don't worry.'' He apologizes as he bends down to pick up my book and hands it to me.

''Oh, okay,'' I say not knowing what to do really, I'm not a great social person.

''Oh god, I'm so messing this up. I'm sorry I'm just nervous. It's my first day here and I have made like zero friends and I'm supposed to go to soccer practice right now but I have no idea where to go and- uhm, I didn't mean to sound rude or anything but I'm like super gay so I was really just complimenting you. Oh lord, I'm making it worse. I'm sorry for wasting your time.'' He rambles and all I can do is smile. He is adorable.

''Hé, take it easy! I'm Riley, nice to meet you.'' I say and I don't know where the sudden confidence came from.

''I'm Levi, nice to meet you too, I'm still really sorry for...'' he begins but I cut him off.

''It's okay! Really no problem. Now I need to go the soccer practice too so I guess we're on the same team!'' I say and he smiles. I finish putting my stuff away and close my locker.

''That's fun!'' He says and I nod at him before we walk toward the practice fields. We talk all the way there and get to know each other quite a bit, which is lovely. During practice, he talks to a few teammates but always makes sure he also speaks to me. After practice I shower quickly and change into some clean and comfy clothes; meaning some joggers and a hoodie that's a few sizes too big because is actually Lizzie's hoodie.

when I exit the changing room I see Levi standing there on his phone. As the door closes behind me he looks up from his phone and smiles at me.

''I thought I would wait for you! I hope you don't mind. I just saw those girls bullying you all day today so now it's my mission to make it stop'' He says and I smile at him.

''I don't mind, and thanks but you don't have to do that. There are so many cool and chill people in this school so go make friends and forget about me.'' I say and I don't actually know why, I'm never like this. Just open and speaking my mind.

''Riley, I wanna be your friend because so far you seem cool and chill, so shut up and let's go.'' He says as he wraps his arm around my shoulder in a friendly manner. I accept his words but can't believe them. We walk to the carpool lane and I see Lizzie's car and one other car, probably one of Levi's parents. Levi and I are still talking about literal nonsense, but it's nice.

''Hurry up, you dork!'' I hear a girl shout from the car behind Lizzie's.

''That's my twin sister, she is annoying you should never talk to her'' Levi says and I laugh, I see her through the window of the car and she is really pretty. ''See you tomorrow, locker neighbor?'' he asks.

''Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow,'' I say and can't look away from the girl sitting in the car. I stand there staring for a few seconds but then Lizzie calls for me from the open window and I get out of my stare. ''Hi Liz!'' I say as I take a seat in the car.

Before she gets to greet me there is a knock on my window. I turn my head to see Levi standing there, I open the widow.

''Hey, I totally forgot to ask for your number. Can I have it?" He asks while holding out his phone to me. I smile and take his phone. I put my full name "Riley Mea Arnett" in there and handed it back to him. "Thanks, Ree! I'll text you and see you tomorrow. Bye, Riley's mom!" He has before running away again. It feels like I have a friend again, a better friend it feels like. I saw in his eyes that he recognised Lizzie but he didn't say anything of it. He stayed nice and respectful, I really appreciate that.

"Soooooooo, wanna tell me who that is, Ree?" Lizzie asks with a smile on her face.

"He is new, today was his first day. I met him at my locker, kind of a long story, I won't bother you with it but he's the new guy on the soccer team. I think he's going to be a great friend," I tell her with a smile on her face.

"You won't bother me with it, sweetie. Just a friend?" She asks and I almost feel disgusting before I realise I never actually to,d her about my sexuality.

"No way! I'm— uhh he's like super gay! That's how he said it at least." I quickly say, I mean I'm not lying.

"Take it easy hon, I was just teasing you." She says and when I look at her I see the smirk on her face.

"Ugh, just drive annoying woman," I say back and she dramatically puts her hand over her heart.

"Ouch, that hurts I'm not annoying,"

"Yes you are"

"Mhhh, no cuddles tonight." She says seriously and now it's turn to be dramatic.

''Meanie''

''You started it'' She says and the rest of the car ride is filled with innocent banter. I feel like I'm going to find my place in life very soon.
