Finding Her Mate

Chapter 2

He looks at Jake angrily saying, "what did I just say about hurting her?." Jake leaves with Ryan as Rhydian says, "I'm sorry Maddie, not everyone appreciates that fire in you." He extends his hand to her saying, "here, let me help you." Maddie takes Rhydian's hand as a bolt of electricity pulses through their touch. Rhydian says, "what-!." A coursing shock passes through Maddie, and everything fades away except for Rhydian, he feels it too, gasping for breath as his fingers close over hers. Maddie lets go asking, "what just happened?!." Rhydian says, "you...and... I-." Maddie thinks, 'wait, no I can't get distracted by him and whatever this is, I still need to get away.' Maddie says, "thanks for helping me up." Rhydian says, "sure, right no worr-." Maddie pulls Rhydian to the ground and runs away as he says, "hey-!." Finally, outside, Maddie races through the pouring rain thinking, 'yes now if I just-." Ryan says, "you can't run from us, kid!." Maddie had to escape thinking what to do when she had an idea; she grabbed several bins and shoved them behind as Ryan and Jake tumbled over them. Maddie stopped in a corner to catch her breath before walking on however Rhydian came in front of her blocking the path. Rhydian says, "look, I am not trying to hurt you, Maddie-." Maddie was annoyed saying, "stop saying my name like you know me!." Rhydian says, "I know more than you think." Maddie asks, "oh yeah, like what?." Rhydian replies, "like who your parents really are." Maddie was stunned saying, "you are playing a vicious joke!." Rhydian says, "I would never joke about this, Maddie I know them, and I know you." Just then a sharp blow from behind steals her words and darkness engulfs her; in the black haze, a dream surfaces which Maddie had been seeing since when she was younger, the smell of smoke and blood, the crackle of flames and someone screaming out to her, "MADDIE! MADDIE!."

A few hours later Maddie opens her eyes to find she is on a bed with Rhydian beside her; he says, "good, you're awake." Maddie looks around asking, "w-where... where am I?." Rhydian answers, "try not to move." He tries to come closer as Maddie says angrily, "hey! don't touch me, back the hell off me!." Rhydian was calm in his approach saying, "it's ok, you're safe." Maddie rolls her eyes saying, "safe? says the guy that kidnapped me." Rhydian says, "believe it or not, I'm trying to help you, you were in trouble out there." Maddie asks, "what was so dangerous about my normal life? pimples? taxes?." Rhydian answers, "you don't have a normal life." She winces as Rhydian grabs an icepack and comes closer to her saying, "would you stay still? that dickhead Jake kicked you hard in the ribs, you're bruised pretty badly." Maddie was confused as she tried to move however Rhydian says, "woah, easy there let me take a look." Rhydian places the icepack on her rib as she says, "I should go to the hospital." Rhydian says, "I wish I could take you to one, but I can't." He examines her as Maddie wonders, 'why can I feel heat radiate off him whenever he's close?.' He uses the icepack again gently to help Maddie's bruise stop swelling before bandaging her saying, "just let me know if it starts to hurt." Maddie doesn't squirm but feels a gentle touch from his hand; Maddie looks around the room asking, "so, where am I exactly?." Rhydian replies, "at my property in the mountains, far from town and far from danger." Maddie says, "funny, the most dangerous thing is I've come across is sitting right in front of me." Rhydian laughs as Maddie rolls her eyes saying, "that wasn't a compliment." Rhydian says, "if you say so." Maddie wonders, 'God, who is this guy? I know he's a threat, but.. that's not what this feels like.' Rhydian says, "Maddie, I know tonight was a.... surprise but if I had not taken you, he would have." Maddie says, "who?." Rhydian replies, "your dad!." Maddie says, "that can't be right, I have never known my dad, he wouldn't randomly just turn up now." 

Maddie gets up and goes over to the fireplace as Rhydian asks, "tell me, what do you know about your family?." Maddie replies, "my parents were... members of a clan and I landed in care because of it... my dad never wanted me." Rhydian says, "oh, your dad wanted you and still does but not for some clan sacrifice, the whole clan thing was bullshit, your dad is a Wolfblood, Maddie and not just any Wolfblood he's the Alpha of my rival pack." Maddie was confused asking, "he's a what?." Rhydian answers, "Wolfblood, a person born with a wolf inside of them, a person who can transform from human into wolf form... a person just like you." Maddie sighs saying, "I am so sick of these lies." Rhydian says, "for the last time, I am not lying to you, you know deep down who you are and what you are... you're a Wolfblood on your eighteenth birthday, your powers awaken, you can be claimed as an Alpha's mate." Maddie says, "claimed as a mate? none of this is making any sense." Rhydian says, "claimed mates make their Alphas strong and the last thing your dad wants is for me to get stronger."
