"Can I help you?" She teased him.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I just wanted to see," Tenya said, embarrassed.
"I'm just teasing. I'm working on some new designs for my hero suit." Shina stated
"Oh, you don't like the one you have now." He asked.
"I mean, I do, but after working in actual battles, there are some things that I would like to change."
"Oh, and what would those things be?"
"Well, I'd like more of a full-body suit type thing. I want to add some extra padding. I'm also considering adding an energy storage system, like Bakugo's gauntlets." She stated.
"That's a brilliant idea. You know, I've never asked you how your quirk works. I noticed you didn't join Bakugo's team at the sports festival. Midoriya told me it was because of your quirk. Is that true?" Tenya asked.
"Haha, well, it is true. I call my quirk Energy Shield, but it's proven to be more than that. Basically, it's a mix of my mom's and dad's quirks. My mom's quirk was energy bursts, which is something I only recently discovered I could do. My dad's quirk could create shields out of anything. He could break things down at the molecular levels and create shields. When my mom was by his side, he would use her energy to make shields. Which is exactly how my quirk works."
"So you were only used to making shields?"
"Yea, it was one of the first basic things I could do, then with some training, I learned how to throw them like my mom. But since the first day of school, after a conversation with Midoriya, I realized I could use my energy as a 'power-up,' like in my feet to boost me up or in my arms for punches. I feel there is so much of my quirk left to discover. That's when I wish I could talk to my parents." She laughed nervously.
"I understand. You are interning at their agency, and I'm sure some heroes knew them," Tenya states.
"Yea, the head hero. I think her Hero's name is Scorch; she used to work with my parents when I was younger."
"That's exciting. How do you feel?"
"I don't really know. I'm feeling all these things at once, but I'm trying to stay calm, so I don't have a panic attack again." Shina nervously laughs.
"You are going to do great. They are going to love you. You have a very charismatic personality." Tenya states, causing Shina to blush.
"W-what do you mean by that?" Shina asked.
This caused Tenya to blush.
"I was trying to say that, um. Well, you've changed my original perception of you, and you are a person I can confidently say I enjoy the presence of. You are a great friend, Shina." Tenya compliments. Shina blushed at these compliments. She wasn't aware this was how Tenya thought of her.
"Thanks, Tenya, I appreciate it. Really." Shina smiled and nervously placed her hair behind her ear.
The two talked longer about different topics until they finally decided to work on their own things. There were about 50 minutes left on the train ride.
"Hey, I'm gonna see if I can take a 10-minute power nap," Shina tells Tenya.
"Yes. Rest is crucial. We must stay alert and focused." Tenya states.
"Haha, yea. Are you going to take a nap?"
"Not during this train ride. I have some work I need to finish. But sleep. I won't leave my seat," Tenya said.
"Oh well, if you have to get up for any reason-"
"I will be ok. Please, get some rest." Tenya said, reassuring Shina. She smiled and put her earbuds in.
She put on the playlist of her favorite songs; the first song that began to play was "Satellite" by Harry Styles.
She placed her phone back in her pocket and leaned back in her seat. A 10-minute nap would be great for Shina. She needed to let her mind rest from the personal topics she had discussed with Tenya. She shared her story so openly. She had never told anyone that story before. She knew that it was something that Tenya needed to hear. She was really worried about him. She was really worried about him. It was crazy to think someone she hated at the beginning of the school year was now someone she worried about and could be open with.
Shina began to fall asleep. She crossed her arms and let her head lean on her shoulder. Tenya turned to the girl when he noticed a light snore coming from her direction; he smiled, seeing how peaceful Shina looked sleeping. He quickly looked away when he felt he was starting too long.
What is wrong with me? He thought to himself. She looks so peaceful and beautiful. Tenya! What are you thinking? It is inappropriate to stare; I must be a respectful and honorable man. I must not bring shame to my family.
As Tenya had a small argument with himself, Shina began leaning to the side, closer to Tenya. She would've stopped herself from leaning if she'd been awake, but she wasn't. She was in such a deep sleep that she didn't notice that she'd been asleep for 15 minutes already. Tenya knew, but he didn't have the heart to wake her up. As Tenya continued working, he felt pressure on his shoulder. He turned and saw that Shina was now total weight, leaning on his arm. His cheeks were almost the same color as Kirishima's hair dye. His face began to heat up. He wasn't sure what to do. She was so close to him that he could smell what kind of shampoo she used. His heart was pounding in his chest. He'd never been in this situation. He paused all his work; he wanted to ensure that Shina was comfortable. Tenya sat as stiff as a board, not wanting to wake her up. He was so tense, so nervous. After 5 minutes, Shina slightly shifts to the window side of her seat. Iida saw this as an opportunity. He grabbed a jacket from his bag and sat it on his lap, hoping Shina would rest her head on his shoulder again. His wish was granted, and this time, Shina nuzzled a little closer to Iida for warmth. She wasn't wearing a sweater, and the cabin was starting to get cold. Tenya gently placed his sweater over Shina to ensure it covered most of her. Tenya, unsure what to do, relaxed and unconsciously leaned closer to her. When he was finally comfortable, he gently placed his head atop Shina's and rested his eyes. And for the first time since his brother's attack, he had finally felt peace.
