After the festival, I found Jiro and the girls, they gave me a group hug.
"Way to win it for the girls Shina," Mina says.
"I'm glad I could do us some justice." I smile. We all walked to class for a quick debrief with Aizawa. He told us that we would have the next two days off to recuperate for the festival. After we all said goodbye to each other. I bowed to Tokoyamo and Aoyama for our battles. But I couldn't find Bakugo. I walked out with Jiro, but still no sign of Bakugo. Finally, I saw some spikes of blonde walking away. I said goodbye to Jiro and ran to the other side to catch up to Bakugo, when I did I smile. He didn't know what to say to me.
I take a deep breath, "Listen I know that I didn't tell you about my quirk's drawback. I just- it didn't make sense for me to tell you that that time, but also I should've told you. I didn't join Midoriya's team to spite you, it just kinda happened. But I know how bad you wanted this so I didn't want to hold you back." I say
He was still silent. I was about to begin speaking but I was interrupted by Bakugo.
"It's fine... and thanks." was all he could manage to say.
"Wait, for what I-"
"Just Thanks, that's it. ok." Bakugo said, trying to walk away. I stood next to him in shock.
"But- this is unlike you," I say.
"Ugh. I'm not mad that you teamed up with that stupid nerd, I was annoyed but now I know why you did it. You did a smart thing for not only me but for yourself. So congrats. You also helped get those chains off of me."
"Oh well it's just that no one should be treated like that, it's inhumane. And I know where you were coming from. I don't feel like I deserved this either." I say holding the third-place medal in my hand.
"You did earn third-place, because I know for a fact that you would've beaten that four-eyes, just like you almost did that day in training." he stopped in his tracks and placed his hand on my shoulder as if to tell me something, but then instantly took it off.
"I need to get home." He says walking away.
"Oh, do you need a ride? I'm sure Taeko, wouldn't mind giving you one."
"Why? you don't think that I am capable of walking myself home. Tsh." He said offended.
"Oh come on we were bonding right now, chill. I definitely think that you can walk yourself, but I wanna give you a ride, my treat." I smile. I tell Bakugo to follow me, and we walk two blocks away from the school entrance.
"If you were going to make me walk, then I should've just walked home myself." I rolled my eyes at him. "DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME." Just then Taeko was pulling up the place that he normally drops me off at. I smiled at Bakugo. I tapped on the passenger's seat window.
"Hey, Taeko."
"Hello Shina, I saw your battles you did amazing at the festival, I believe that you can get first place in the next one." Taeko smiles.
"Thank you, Taeko, I was going to ask if we can give my friend a ride home?" I ask.
"Of course, them to hop in."
I open the door for Bakugo, "I can open my own door." He snaps.
"Bakugo, just get in the car," I say.
Bakugo goes in and Taeko asks him for his address. Bakugo calmly answers him which is a first. Taeko congratulates Bakugo for placing first, but not before saying that he was still rooting for me in my battle with Bakugo. I laugh and Bakugo huffs. We get to Bakugo's house quickly. I smile and look at his house. It was nice."... thanks for the ride, but I'm capable of walking myself home." He says.
"you're welcome." I smile. Bakugo looks at me and rolls his eyes. I laugh as he walks towards his house. But what I didn't know was that facing away from me, Bakugo had a small grin on his face.
When I got home and walked inside, I wasn't greeted by Yuki like normal? I panicked.
"Hello?" I asked walking into the living room.
"SURPRISE!!" I saw my parents, Yuki, and a handful of other people standing in my living room. I was in shock. My parents walked over to me giving me a big hug.
"You were in the top three at the UA sports festival, if that wasn't a way to jump-start your hero career then I don't know what is." my dad says. I smile. They had invited their friends from work to celebrate my winning. To be honest, though, I didn't really feel like celebrating. I was exhausted and I just wanted to sleep.
"Miss Shina, would you like me to make you a coffee?" Yuki asked.
I gave her a soft smile, "Yes please." I answer as she walks away.
"Shina, go get showered and change into some nice clothes." My mom tells me. I nod. I walk upstairs get some clothes and get in the shower. When I come out I am wearing this( ) dry my hair and do my makeup. Once I finish I walk back downstairs.
"Hey," I say. Yuki hands me a cup of coffee with the perfect amount of cream and sugar. I thank Yuki. I walk over to my parents.
"We have one more surprise for you."
"Oh, you really didn't have to-" my dad took my coffee from my hands and my mom turned me around. In the hallway was my sister, Yasuko.
"Surprise." She said.
"Oh My God-" I ran over to her and hugged her tightly. "I haven't seen you in forever."
"I know, I wanted to surprise you. I had to come to the sports festival for work, Sumiye Corp had a booth. At the top of the stadium." She said.
"Well, why didn't you try and see me?" I ask.
"Because I didn't want to be a distraction for you. I wanted you to focus on the battles. Which you did, you were a firecracker out there." She teased. My dad gave me my coffee back and let me sit with my sister as we began to talk.
"So you watched the battles?" I ask.
"Um, plus I saw the cheerleading accident." She laughed.
"Ugh, please don't get me started on that. Some guys in my class thought it would be a funny prank." I say.
"Ok, but it was." She laughed.
"I- Anyway, you totally kicked ass, and that last battle, you definitely gave that guy a run for his money." She says.
"Thanks..." I say, looking at my coffee.
"Ok, what's wrong?" She asked.
"What, nothing is wrong," I say, faking a smile. She looks at me raising an eyebrow, I sigh.
"You act like we didn't live under the same roof for years. So tell me what's up." Yasuko says.
I take a deep breath. "I just don't think that I deserve all this." I motioned to the party.
"Ah, because you didn't battle the little Iida for third." She asks.
"Yea, how did you know he's an Iida?" I ask.
"Because I saw him fight in the other battles, he was supposed to battle you for third after losing to Todoroki."
"Yea, but he had to leave so I feel like either of us could've been third place," I say.
"Yea, but I don't blame him After hearing what happened I would've probably left the festival too, especially if it happened to you." My sister said taking a sip of her drink.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Oh, you don't know. Ingenium, his older brother, Tensei is in the hospital. Not many people know why, but on patrol, he ended up getting injured badly. I assume that's why he left the festival early." Yasuko stated. I blinked a few times. I couldn't help but feel bad. I can't imagine what their family must be going through. I hope everything turns out ok. Just then my mom wanted me to say hi to some of her work friends so I did. I had a smile on my face but on the inside, my mind was elsewhere thinking about my classmate.
