Today was the day actual classes started. I hadn't been around for a few days. Military Officials kept themselves on my ass about the ongoing border issues.Fires were spreading all along the border as riots continued to rise in the neighboring country. Being allied meant we were doing our best to help without getting violent towards its citizens.
Ares was exhausted from all of the incredibly long flights, so was I. Unfortunately I couldn't just go home and sleep. Micah and Marcus both had things they needed to do, and Clinton was busy with his teaching. That left just me to go around with Octavia. Not that I was complaining. Okay, maybe a little bit, but not about the fact I got to spend all day with her.
We were walking silently towards her first class. One of the others had shown her around while I had been gone. Her and Tommy seemed to stick together as much as possible. Both being the same age and being introverted probably didn't help with their social skills.
My father still kept demanding I force Via out. Everything he said fell of deaf ears.
Boys chattered and hollered as we walked through the hallways. Octavia's and Tommy's first class were together. Most of their classes were together. He didn't want people to think he depended on me too much so he said he would catch up with us.
The doors to the history room whined. A few students already sat around talking freely. Octavia sat at a desk close to the door.
Smart. The quickest way out of the room if needed. I stood against the wall, standing just like I had at the Sorting. Arms and ankles crossed. After a few more minutes Tommy walked in and sat next to Via. Other students began to rapidly fill the room and take desks. Mr. Corvus walked in last. The door slammed shut behind him. Anybody late wouldn't be allowed in. All talking stopped at the sound of the door. His eyes looked straight to me, then he saw Via and Tommy. A slight nod of respect to us and he began.
"I am Mr. Corvus. You will refer to me as such unless I say otherwise. I expect each and every one of you to do as your told." His eyes roved over everyone in the class. He didn't so much as pause on Via.
Corvus was fair. He expected the same from everybody. If you needed help then ask for help. The man seemed scary and like a major asshole, but he was actually pretty chill. I had struggled in his class. Reading wasn't my strong suit, and there was a lot of reading. He had always tried to make it to where everyone understood what he was teaching. Granted you had be trying your best.
"I don't care who your family is. Whether your from a commoner family, mage, wizard, shapeshifter. Even nobles and pure bloods. You will all be treated the same. Now, the first lesson." A collective murmur spread through the room.
"A lesson on the first day?"
"Oh come on!"
"Why can't it be a simple first day like every other year?"
Complaints were shot left and right. Corvus ignored them all and pulled a picture of the mountains around us.
"Enough! Pay attention. Now who can tell me-" I stopped paying attention there. Most of the other classes consisted of mostly the same introduction. Potions, Dragon Species and Anatomy, Geography, Combat Training, and Ariel Training. Of course there was the regular school classes like math, science, language arts, regular history, etc. Some tried to call Via out but that was shut down quickly.
Right now we sat in the cafeteria. Marcus had grabbed some food for me, Octavia, and Tommy before all of the good stuff was taken. My head was on the table, arms rested on my legs and hands limply resting between my legs. The other were talking and asking about the first day so far.
Tommy had already been given special treatment he didn't want because of his blood status. "Why does it matter if I'm a pure blood though?" He had more a mindset that Micah and I had.
"Because pure bloods are powerful. Especially the Dagen line," Micah said. Someone kicked my foot making me look up.
"What?" I asked tiredly.
"How's the border?" Marcus asked.
"Roasting. We are currently pushing the riots away from the border but we can only go so far. It's a fucking mess." I laid my head back down. Well, I accidentally smacked the fuck out of it with forehead without meaning to. "God damnit." I hissed and rubbed the sore spot.
"What should we expect for training?" Octavia asked.
"It should be your last class of the day. You will have one training instructor all year. They will also be your aerial instructor. You will start with the basics. You know, stamina, hand to hand, stuff like that. As you progress it will get harder. Eventually the instructor will run a series of tests to see which weapon is best for you, or which one you're good at, or whatever." Marcus explained. Weapon choice was very specific. If you could show that your capable of learning and getting better with a weapon, it was yours. Secondary weapons were also a mandate.
I used mainly light, close range weapons. Swords, knives, daggers, hand to hand combat. I also used guns. Long range and heavy weapons were where I wasn't as good. Bows and sniper rifles weren't my thing. Neither were broadswords. They were always harder for me to use.
Micah used the long ranged weapons. Bows, sniper rifles, things like that. He was fucking good with them too.
Marcus was mid range. He preferred long swords and mid ranged guns. Hand to hand was also good if needed.
Tommy was bouncing in his seat. He was excited to learn everything he could. The kid always wanted to know more. It could be anything. He was basically a walking internet browser. His dragon had already told him stuff about the magic they held. The magic instructor had gotten slightly irritated with all of the questions Tommy had for him.
"Females aren't supposed to be riders." All of the attention immediately switched to conversation behind us. "She's not supposed to be here."
The door to the cafeteria burst open.
The headmaster stalked in proudly. He had been the one to issue the order of Via always having one of us with her. His presence was massive. Taking up more room than a large dragon, if it were to be inside the building.
"Good afternoon students. I am Headmaster Oliver. Now, I'm sure you are all aware that we have some circumstances this year. One of them being a female rider." Murmurs swept through the room. Eyes turned and landed on Via who stared at her hands in her lap. Her eyes tightly squeezed shut. "One thing you all will understand here and now. She is not to be treated poorly by any of you, students and teachers alike. I have one of three of our strongest soldiers with her at all times. One of them being the Dragon Kings Rider. He commands eleven of the strongest legions known to man. Him and his soldiers have been given permission to protect Octavia by any means necessary. Not only have I instructed them with protecting her, but they are close friends as well."
Students went silent at that. The fear simmered low. Protecting Octavia wasn't a game. Even with the knowledge of us constantly being with her, someone would try to do something.
"These men will do what they see fit to anybody that threatens her. And they have full permission. With that I bid you all a good afternoon and luck with your classes." He made eye contact with our table and nodded before leaving the room. The large doors closing behind him.
"He really knows how to make an entrance," Marcus snickered as the room began to fill with chatter once again.
The rest of the day was fairly uneventful.
Until training started.
