Megan and I never spoke for the rest of the holidays, not even when it was the new year.
Because you can't always leave your problems behind in the old year.
It was so hard saying goodbye to Trent and Jake seeing as how they had been my rock through the holidays and especially hard saying goodbye to Mom because I always had this little fear in me that she'd go back to before, not well.
But T and J promised to be more careful and I trusted them with absolutely all of my beating heart.
Porsche hugged me when I came back to the room. She was there without Alice, for once.
"God, I've missed you. Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm okay, I'm fine," I answered.
"Good. I've been avoiding Alice, she's been trying to talk to me for ages but I couldn't be bothered."
"Seriously, am I coming between you two?"
She scoffed. "No..."
"Go talk to her if you want, I'll talk to her eventually but today I just wanna stay here all day with my laptop."
Porsche sighed. "Fine, I'll meet up with her, and I'll tell you how it went."
"Okay, I'll see you later."
On my own I wrote more of Doubles As, managing to upload a good amount. My clothes had been put away and were fresh and dry, courtesy of Trent and Jake being complete dolls.
As long as Mom was okay, Megan didn't try to convince me to give Dad a second chance, and Trent and Jake were both okay, then I was fine.
Porsche came back fifteen minutes later.
"Hey, how did it go?" I asked.
She shrugged. "It went well, but it's your turn now."
I shut my laptop. "Is she outside this room right now?"
"....maaaaaaayyyyybe."
I groaned and hid my face in my pillow. "No, it's too soon. Absolutely not."
"I'm not taking that for an answer," Porsche replied, and we both knew she was telling the truth.
In the end I allowed myself to be locked outside, face to face with my roommate's best friend.
She smiled. "Hi."
"We can't talk here, I just have a feeling Porsche will just listen through the door."
"Agreed. Care to walk with me?"
"Sure."
We walked, side by side, absolutely not touching in any way.
