"I'm getting my butt kicked when I get home, aren't I?" Megan asked after Trent and I walked in.

"Oh yeah," I said.

"So badly," T added.

She groaned. "I have been making a lot of mistakes lately, haven't I?"

"Yeah, I'd say so," I answered.

"You guys were right, I never should have given Dad a second chance. He has this whole other family now and when I found out I was super pissed. Liz told me I shouldn't be going out when I was upset and obviously I never listened, and well...here I am."

"Okay, so now Mom will not only kill you but she'll kill Dad and bury him in the backyard," Trent pointed out.

"I'll probably end up helping and lying to the police," I added.

"I would just really love if he stayed far away from me forever at this point," Megan said.

"I think we all want that," T clarified.

.......

"Oh god. Megan, sweetheart."

"Hi, Mom," Meg muttered.

"It was Dad's fault," Trent said.

I scoffed. "Way to tell her gently."

"Oh don't worry, sweeties. He's already told me what happened. I've sent him packing," Mom reassured us.

"Was it hard?" Megan asked.

"Not really," she responded. "The only reason I stayed in touch was because I wasn't sure if any of you would take that second chance, I couldn't make that decision for you."

"But you're going to have a word with me when I get out, right?" Megan asked.

Mom laughed, before going serious again. "Oh, you bet I will."

Trent caught my eye. "This is going to be a fun time," he muttered.

"Oh definitely," I replied, smirking.

He threw his arm round my shoulders and pulled me into a hug.

We would be okay, we didn't need our father in our life.

We may be messy and dysfunctional and sometimes not get along, but we are family and I'd do anything for my family.
