I hummed under my breath, shifting back and forth on my heels. Apparently, I picked the wrong time to order a pizza at this time of day, as there were around ten people in line to pick up their own order. Letting out a sigh, I continued to shift on my feet, downcasting my gaze to the small tile flooring below.
A few girls had noticed me, even a few parents and I scribbled some quick signatures across a couple phone cases, and took a few cell phone pictures, but other than that, the fans were relatively quiet at this place. Which I suppose was good, I needed to get the pizza and hurry back home. I didn't want to leave Sage in her fragile state alone. Who knows what could happen while I was gone.
Vibrations in my pocket startled me out of my thoughts, causing my humming and nervous shifting to end as I fished in my back pocket for the slim object. I slid it into my hand, my eyes squinting to read the small print on the screen. A text from Sage. What could she need?
And my heart dropped into my stomach when I read what the full text included.
Liam, babe, they're here. They've come. I'm hiding in the closet. Please come home, please, please hurry home.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath. Spinning hastily on my heel, I narrowly avoided bumping into an older lady shuffling through the open door being held by someone on the outside. Taking to oppurtunity, I darted through while it was open, sprinting to my car and hopping inside.
I was blinded by Sage's terrified face floating into my mind, barely being able to comprehend what was going on around me as my foot slammed down the gas pedal. Screeching tires must have left being marks as I ignored signs and other cars coming, weaving my way out onto the road as I began to speed back toward my house.
"C'mon," I hissed through my teeth, letting off the gas for a second, only to press back on it, sending the car jolting forward. My teeth gritted together as I slipped through a turn, narrowly clipping the landscaping decorating the sidewalks.
When only about a mile from the house, my phone lit again, the text different this time.
I love you. I love you so much. See you back at the castle.
"Oh shit no, they can't take her," I yelled within my confinements, rage blinding my mind now to think clear thoughts as I sped around the car in front of me, not even caring that I was going well over the speed limit. The driveway appeared in moments, sending a surge of hope through my throat when I noticed cars still sitting in the driveway.
But that immediately erased when I noticed the people sitting within one of the cars, paired with the others standing around the front door.
Guards made a small forest green swarm, the only differential in their coloring being the small blue spot in the middle. A girl. Danielle? What is she doing here? The people stationary in the car almost made me scream in frustration. Jay. Sitting alone with Sage. And he seemed to be taunting her, as far as I could see that stupid smirk plastered on his features, his mouth moving quickly.
I screeched the car to a stop, throwing open the door and hopping out, immediately sprinting for the car, hoping to save Sage from some of the torture she was probably going through. My hand slapped onto the window, startling her. Her small pink mouth parted, curving into a small smile as she motioned for me to get inside with her. But before I could even think of doing that, three pairs of hands clamped onto my upper arm, yanking me roughly backward.
"Hold on a minute there Mr. Payne," one of the guards spoke behind his thick mask, the small holes meant to see out of focusing in on my face. "We have a little proposal for you first."
