"Dani?" I asked loudly, taking a step backwards so that I was up against the door. Peering back in quickly, I saw Sage eyeing my questionly, but she didn't move from her spot. I held up a single finger to her, before shutting the door behind me.
"Is it really you?" I asked again when she didn't answer.
Danielle crossed her arms, her blonde and brunette hair falling over her arms as she stared at me. Her lips parted for a moment, before she snapped them shut. Then, in a sickeningly sweet voice, she answered, 'Yeah, it's me. Who else?"
"What are you doing here? How did you get in the castle? How did you find me?" I fired off questions quickly, nervous to the fact on why she was here. Because if she wasn't here with the castle staff's consent, she could be in big trouble, especially if Sage's father found out she was my ex-girlfriend.
"There's a thing called a door dumb ass," I jumped when I heard another familiar voice. Stepping out of the shadows with his arms crossed was Louis, followed by Niall, Harry, and Zayn.
"All the doors are guarded..." I started, cocking my head to the side.
"Snuck in. Wasn't really that hard when your 'guards' were asleep," Zayn shrugged, his dark eyes glittering in the dimly lit stone hallway.
"Back to my first question. Why are you guys here? I thought I asked you guys not to try to come find me. That I was doing something that couldn't be stopped."
"First of all, you never told us where you were going. We didn't know you were coming to get married to some girl," Louis stated, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Second, we can stop it actually. It's real easy really, we just take you from here out the same door we came in," Harry added.
"And third, we are here to take you back with us to London. We need you, for the band, ya know," Niall said, his eyes downcasted as he shrugged.
"And I need you," Danielle added, coming to stand by me as she drug her hand up and down my shoulder, then down my arm. She looked up at me innocently, biting her plump bottom lip.
But it didn't have the same effect on me anymore like it would have a few months ago. Jay was right, the castle changed a person, and I had realized that the girl I had orignally thought was the one, really wasn't. Sage was the girl for me, despite if I had been set up with her forcefully. I didn't even care about that anymore, I actually did like her. A lot.
"Guys," I said, taking a step back and gently shrugging Danielle's hand away from my shoulder. Biting my lip, I looked around at the faces of my four best friends who were all looking at me pleadingly, especially Niall who looked the most hopeful that I would come back with them. "Guys, I can't go back with you."
"Well why not? What do you have keeping you here?" Louis inquired, staring me down.
"First of all, they would just drag me back once they saw I was gone. They probably have some way to track me, and if they didn't they found me in the first place, they'd just find me again," I tried to explain, looking at them pleadingly. "I don't want any of the rest of you to get hurt."
"Oh, Liam shut up, we all know there's something else keeping you here, or else you'd want to leave the first chance you got," Niall scoffed, his glare now matching Louis'.
"Well, there's me too, you know."
I jumped around, startled as Sage stood a few paces behind me, her hands on her hips as her green eyes scanned all the others. "Don't worry Liam, I heard everything," She assured me, coming to stand beside me as she patted my shoulder awkwardly, before turning to the others.
"Who are you?" Zayn asked, his eyes wide as he scanned the tiny girl beside me.
"Sage Craft," She answered pursing her lips. "I presume you are that legendary group of guys?"
"Ha, we're not the Beatles sweetie," Louis smirked. "But I'm guessing your that spoiled princess from the 'kingdom' that everyone talks about?"
"The very one," She shot back, taking a step in front of me so that she was face to face with Louis. If they weren't so serious, it would have been quiet comical how they were both determined to beat each other out. "Oh, and me, spoiled? No, I just have a lot of money I can't use. But you seem to have plenty of money to waste, you bought a monkey and a football team."
Louis took another angry step forward, but Sage held up her hand, smirking again. "Take another step forward pretty boy, and I'll call my guards right over here to drag your ass away, and you'll never see your precious Starbucks again."
"Someone's a fan aren't we," Harry asked, eyes wide.
"Yeah, or Louis' long lost sister," Zayn scoffed, grabbing Louis' arm and yanking him backwards away from Sage.
"Anyway," Niall interjected everyone, stepping forward, mainly towards me. "Liam, I think we've given you plenty of time here to decide. Are you coming back with us? Or are we going to have to find a way to make you go back with us?"
"Niall, you know I can't just go back with you-"
"Liam, shut up, you know damn good and well we could sneak you out right now, and atleast just keep you with us a little bit longer until they get you again. Then they would come get you again, and we could just sneak you out again," Niall looked almost pleading as he explained. "C'mon, you know you miss us."
"I do miss you guys.." I trailed off, only to be interrupted by someone else.
"Do you miss me?" Danielle snapped, basically pushing Sage out of the way as she came to stand up beside me, staring up at me with a hopeful expression.
"I don't think it's a matter of who you miss and who you don't," Sage interjected, stepping forward, and taking a deep breath, pain clear in her eyes. "I think it's a matter of what Liam wants to do. And I know for a fact he want's to go back with you guys."
"Sage-"
"No Liam. I know you love them all. I know you love her," She jabbed her finger in the direction of a pouting Danielle. Tears glistened in her eyes as she added. "Go with them. I tell mom and dad that I don't know what happened to you. I'll cover for that sleeping guard." Her voice then got really soft, as she finished off with, "Because remember what I told you? I promised would get you back with them. And I don't break my promises."
She was right. And a few months ago I would have jumped at the chance to leave with the boys. I wouldn't have even told Sage, or anyone for that matter. But now something here made me not want to leave ever. Sage, was that something. And it felt stupid to say I was falling in love with a girl I had met months before, and was being forced to marry. But I was and I didn't care how cliche' it sounded.
"Come here," I sighed, stepping forward and crushing her to my chest, holding her tiny frame tightly to me. "You know, you're too sweet for your own good," I whispered to her, smiling slightly as she giggled through her tears.
But before I could lean down and press my lips to her forehead, she pulled away, smiling sadly up at me.
"Good bye Liam. I'll be looking forward to your new album coming out, featuring you," She smiled, rubbing her eyes, before disappearing back into her room, shutting the door with a gentle click.
"You...you ready Liam?" Niall asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Yeah," I sighed, stepping over to Dani and tangling my fingers with hers, giving her one of the fakest smiles I think I've ever managed. "Let's go."
