ADDISON

I don't know where Aaron is.

"Hey. Anything?" I text Joshua.

"No, nothing. I'll try him again." His text back to is the same as the one before.

I know I shouldn't be the clingy girlfriend and it is normal for him to not spend every minute of the day with me, but he didn't come home yesterday. I slept alone.

Aaron told me after the game he'd finish up with his Coach and then come home.

He told me to wait for him, he'll cook me something and we'll watch a silly rom com together.

I know I could be overreacting, but I know

Aaron wouldn't just blow me off like that. Even if he had something important come up, he'd call me or even text me.

I don't know where he spent the night or where he is right now, and I have got a bad feeling about all this. Also, we've got three hours left before the match begins and I just want to find him before it does.

I'm pacing the kitchen when the door opens.

I take a relieved breath when I see his tattooed arm from behind a wall. I walk out of the kitchen with a smile on my face, but it quickly crumbles when I see Aaron.

"Aaron?"

He looks like he's been crying. His eyes are red and puffy. His shoulders are up to his ears from the tension and his hands...

"What happened to your hands?" I move to grab them but he pulls away from me. His hands were full of cuts and dried blood.

Aaron's breathing starts to escalate and his frown deepens. His face is as tough as stone, no emotion can be detected from it. I can't remember a time where he ever looked like this.

Maybe when we first met he was always grumpy and had a permanent scowl on his face, but this. This is different. Even back then his eyes told me another story. Now all I see in his bloody eyes is...void.

"Aaron, are you okay? What happened last night?"

He doesn't answer me and it makes me feel helpless. Did he have a panic attack? Is he in one now? I have seen him get sad or agitated, but he never was this silent.

"Aaron, just please tell me what's wrong, okay?"

Please tell me why you won't kiss me, touch me. Please tell me why you're taking your hugs and your warmth away from me. Please tell me why you are looking at me like this. Like you don't know me.

"I need you to leave." He whispers so, so quietly. His voice is hoarse and it cracks at the end of his words.

I feel pain gripping my heart from his request. I feel tears threatening to form and fall. I know what is coming next, I just don't want it to happen.

Why is it even happening?

"I don't understand Aaron."

"It is simple doctor Carter." His voice now is calm and low. His mask is on again, the mask I thought he'd never put up again with me.

"I don't want you here anymore. You are invading my home."

His home?

My heart aches and screams from just one word. It is not ours. I'm not his home, even though he is mine. He wants his home back, I'm just a mere guest here.

Right. I forgot.

I hold my chin up higher and take a step back.

"No." I am not making whatever this is easy for you Aaron. If he wants whatever this is to happen, I won't put my face down and agree with him that simply.
