My Confession

You walked away,

Unaware of my presence,

As I stood there, heart pounding,

Clutching a piece of paper.

It was a note,

A confession of my love,

That I couldn't bring myself to say to your face.

I watched you with her,

Your best friend,

And I wondered if you saw her

The way I saw you:

Pretty, smart,

She is the one for you, perhaps.

I knew you were happy,

But what about me?

The nerd who had fallen for you from the moment

You stood up for her.

Suddenly, you turned back,

And your eyes met mine.

I saw surprise in your gaze,

And my heart skipped a beat.

You took the note from my hand,

And I held my breath,

Awaiting your response.

You wrote something down,

And handed it back to me.

My fingers trembled as I took it,

And my heart pounded in my chest.

I read the word,

And my world exploded with joy:

Yes.
