5 Weeks later.
Jaime looked at the large castle in front of him, frowning at the large walls. He did not want to be here, he should be in Kings Landing with his wife. Instead, his father had decided Jaime had to travel to the Vale. Jaime could not believe he missed the way his father had been with him before. While his father had been annoying and overbearing there had never been a question of his love. Now Jaime was not sure his father even liked him. Tywin had not looked at him for the past few moons, they only spoke when it had something to do with the kingdom or Lyanna. Thank the gods for his wife, Lyanna was the one who made things between him and his father more bearable. She kept telling him to give Tywin more time, that his father needed some time to come to terms with what had happened.
"My prince." Jon Brax bowed to Jaime. "We have movement from the castle. The scouts said that Lord Royce is heading this way with a small entourage of soldiers."
"Perfect." Jaime looked at the castle once more before turning around. "We will wait for him here."
Their mission was not supposed to be a show of strength, he was perfectly aware that he would not be able to get into the Eyrie without someone allowing him to. People were not joking when they said that the Eyrie was impenetrable, the only reason the Targaryens had been able to take it was because they had dragons. Showing up with hundreds or thousands of soldiers would not do them any good. Lysa Arryn would not allow them in, especially to take Petyr Baelish.
Lord Royce approached him, getting off his horse and giving him a nod. Jaime smiled, deciding not to call out the older lord on his lack of proper etiquette. The man had never liked the Lannisters and the feeling was mutual. Jaime did not like men who judge others without knowing them.
"Prince Jaime." The man raised an eyebrow. "What do you want?"
"I was under the impression I was your prince and future king." Jaime crossed his arms over his chest, smiling at the older man. "I do not believe you should be speaking to me that way, especially when I have come to help you."
"Help me?" Yohn Royce looked annoyed. "What would I need your help with?"
"To finally be able to know why your liege lord is dead." Royce tensed.
"What do you mean?" Royce moved a bit closer. "I was told Lord Arryn passed due to issues with his health and age."
"While it is true that Lord Arryn was old, he was not sick." Jaime leaned against the tree. "I am surprised everyone accepted his death so easily, especially because he died with the king. Did no one find it strange that both men passed at the same time?"
"We did not have much information about the way he passed." Royce frowned. "Lady Arryn was not very forthcoming with the information about what happened."
"Well, the king and lord Arryn were poisoned." Royce's eyes widened. "We questioned several men and finally discovered that Petyr Baelish was the one who provided the poison to kill the old king and Jon Arryn."
"Are you sure of this?"
"Of course I am." Jaime pulled out the letter Lyanna had written and handed it to the older lord. "My wife wrote this, as you can see is still sealed. She said to give it to no one but you."
Yohn Royce took the letter, looking at Jaime for a few minutes before opening it and turning away from him. Jaime had no idea what Lyanna had written, but it must not have been good because the more the lord read the tenser his shoulders got. Jaime did not say anything, just allowed the lord to read and hoped he would believe them. Finally, the lord crushed the letter in his hands before turning to look back at Jaime.
