💚 Burdock is known by a host of other names, some of which date from the Middle Ages or earlier: lappa, fox's clote, bardona, thorny burr, beggar's buttons, cockle buttons, love leaves, philanthropium, personata, happy major, clotbur/clot-bur and niu bang zi in China.

💚 As a nitrogen fixer, burdock is a great plant to leave on depleted soil. Cover plants with cardboard or hay to smother them, and they will die back, leaving viable nutrients in the earth.

💚 Leo Tolstoy noted of the herb: "It asserts life to the end, and alone in the midst of the whole field, somehow or other had asserted it".

💚 Native Americans used burdock medicinally and boiled the stems of the plant in maple syrup to make a tasty candy.
