❤️ Mullein has a host of evocative folk names, including Our Lady's flannel, blanket herb, velvet plant, rag paper, wild ice leaf, clown's lungwort, Bullock's lungwort, Aaron's rod, Jupiter's staff, Jacob's staff, Peter's staff, shepherd's staff, beggar's stalk, Adam's flannel, beggar's blanket, Cuddy's lungs, feltwort, fluffweed, hare's beard, old man's flannel and hag's taper. It was also called the candlewick plant, torches or candelaria because the dried flower stalks were dipped in tallow to make torches.

❤️ The lore of Ancient Greece relates that the warrior Ulysses took mullein (called moly) to protect himself from the wiles of the sorceress Circe.
