🟨 The Latin name of the curry tree honours 18th-century German botanist Johann König, who worked as a naturalist for the Nawab of Arcot in Southern India and recorded descriptions of many plants used in Indian medicine.

🟨 If the leaves of tulasi (holy basil, Ocimum tenuiflorum) are not available for the religious rituals performed by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs to honour a deity, curry leaves may be used instead.
