🔵 The golden flowers were once used to make fabric dyes. A whole range of yellows, oranges and browns could be obtained by using different mordants, or setting agents.

🔵 In the Middle Ages, calendula symbolised jealousy. The whole flower was often used as a decorative garnish.

🔵 The flowers typically open from nine in the morning until the sun goes down.

🔵 The larvae of many Lepidoptera used calendula as food plants, including the cabbage moth, Gothic moth, the large yellow underwing and the setaceous Hebrew character.
