⬛ When the leaves are crushed and rubbed on the skin, they act as a mosquito repellent.

⬛ Lemon balm might be a better, more health-wise, preservative for sausages than the butylated hydroxy anisole that is currently used.

⬛ Lemon balm is the chief ingredient in carmelite water, an alcoholic extract which combines the herb with lemon peel, nutmeg and angelica root. It was originally made by 12th-century French nuns and monks and used as a toilet water and tonic to ward off nervous headaches and fever. It is still sold in German pharmacies.
