^everytime I write Buggy's eye colour this meme goes through my head

🤡

I followed Buggy back into the town and into the big circus tent that his people had set up. Being back in it, made my head spin as the memories from when it had been my town held hostage came flooding back.

The memories made me want to sob, to scream or to attack every single clown I saw, but I knew I couldn't do any of that. So, I just stayed quiet. Buggy's crew was shocked to see me. It was Dilly who had spoke first, though.

"Betty? You look so hot, oh my god!"

That made me smile like an idiot. "I don't!"

"Don't play coy, you know you look sexy in that get up. I'm just jealous it's Buggy who's got you in his bed and not me."

Buggy gave her a mocking smile. "Are you trying to steal her off me, Dilly?"

"I am, actually."

"She can't steal me off you if I'm not yours."

Suddenly, he wrapped his arm around my waste and pulled me against him. Even with the heavy clown makeup, I knew the deep blush on my face would be visible.

"Come on, you don't have to keep pretending we're not a thing, Bets. Everybody already knows."

"Bets? Gosh, you two are disgusting!" Dilly exclaimed dramatically. "I'm off!"

The minute she was gone, I shoved Buggy away from me, clenching my fists by my side in pure anger.

"What the hell was that?"

He shrugged. "I thought it was funny."

"I already told you I don't find it funny!" I told him through gritted teeth. "Don't tell people that lie."

"Actually," He said, dramatically leaning forward and basically pressing his clown nose against mine. "I'll tell people whatever the fuck I like."

I just turned my head away from him. "Whatever."

"Whatever," He repeated in a mocking tone.

"Captain," a purple haired clown said, running up to us. "Everyone is definitely here."

"Great! Let the show begin."

And so it did. We all waited in the wings, me clutching the bag of knives tightly to my chest. I could feel my heart pounding as I waited for my turn.

One of the clowns introduced Buggy, and when he ran out, the spotlight actually hit him this time. He stood up on a small elevated spot as the whole audience was forced to clap for him.

I had to admit that he was charismatic. The audience, although scared, did seem to enjoy some of the acts and did genuinely clap without being commanded to.

As more time passed, my heart beat got louder and louder in my ears until I literally couldn't hear anything. That's when I felt someone push me.
