When I got back to Buggy's bedroom, I found that he had just been left on the bed, all alone. His crew, it seemed, didn't care very much about taking care of him. I guess that shouldn't have surprised me.
They were killer, sociopaths. It made sense that they didn't take such good care of one another.
His eyes were firmly shut and, for a minute, I worried that he might have been dead. It was just my paranoia, my fear, because I saw his chest moving up and down after a moment.
I went to him, pressing a hand to his forehead. He was freezing, yet sweating still.
His eyes shot open almost immediately. "Beatrice?"
He had never called me by my full name before. Hearing it from his lips made me stop in my tracks for a second. Then, I smiled. It sounded nice coming from his mouth.
Normally, I never allowed anyone to call me that. Other than my parents. I realised I'd let Buggy call me anything that he wanted to.
"I'm here," I assured him, stroking my hand down his face as softly as I could. "How do you feel?"
"Like absolute shit. I'm freezing."
"You're drenched in sweat."
"Am I?" He asked, sounding genuinely shocked. That worried me. Could he not tell that he was soaking in sweat? "Is it bad?"
Yes. His clothes were literally soaked through. I didn't want to worry him though.
"Nothing a bath won't fix."
He grinned at that. "A bath sounds like heaven right now."
"I'll make sure it's boiling hot, too. Since you're so cold. I'll go set it up, and I'll come back to get you. I'll be ten minutes tops, okay?"
"You don't have to worry about me," He told me. Our eyes met. "I'm okay."
He wasn't. He really wasn't, but it was sweet that he was concerned about me. In that moment, my heart felt like it was swelling in my chest.
I just nodded, lifting his hand to my mouth and kissing it gently. Then, I was off to run his bath.
There was only one bath on this entire ship, and only Buggy was permitted to use it. Everyone else bathed in the ocean. Nobody seemed to mind this system, except me.
It was kept in a small, isolated room. The bath was wooden, yet held the water in no problem. It was large, big enough for maybe three people at once.
I began to heat up the water, wanting it to be as warn as possible. I wanted to heat him up as much as I could, but I was worried about how much he was sweating.
Once the bath was filled, I headed straight back to the room to get Buggy. Again, I found him with his eyes shut, seemingly sleeping. The minute I touched him, his eyes shot open.
"Time for your bath," I told him, helping him stand.
Just like before, he leaned his entire weight against me and I struggled to keep him up. I tried not to let it show, as I walked him out of his room.
The deck was soaking. The ship had set sail, and the waves were crashing hard against the boat. It seemed as if those rumours of a storm were likely true.
I was happy about one thing: everyone was below deck. Nobody could see how weak Buggy was right now, which I considered a good thing.
Once we were inside of the room, Buggy broke away from me, leaning against one of the walls for support. He looked exhausted.
