It wasn't at all awkward at breakfast this morning. I caught Amber blushing a time or two. She needed to learn how to be more discreet. After breakfast, mom and Amber went into the dance studio practicing for the competition. I knew we would be leaving around noon, so I took that time to get something special for Amber. I knew what I wanted and what I was looking for. I had seen it before when my mother and I had been out shopping. I had thought then that it would make the perfect gift for Amber. But at the time, I didn't have a reason to get it, but now I did.
The guy at the shop watched me as I looked through the plexiglass, looking for the tiny dancer that was made up of the smallest diamonds. It was white gold in color. It is very simple and perfect for Amber. I found it laying against a read background beside a set of ballerina slippers earrings and necklace.
"The white gold, tiny dancer please sir" I tell the guy behind the plexiglass counter.
"You sure that's the one?" he asked
"Yes," I look up at him. "It's for my girlfriend she's a dancer."
"Really," he says as he takes the necklace from the case
"Yes, she is competing in the dance competition this weekend. I would like to give her this gift before" I tell him
"What a thoughtful idea. Would you be paying with cash or credit, sir?" he asked
"Credit," I tell him, taking out my card and getting ready to swap it.
I see as he hits a button under the counter as he rings up the necklace. I don't hear anything, but I was pretty sure he just alarmed security. Fool, does he not know who I am. I roll my eyes.
"That will be 43,000,00." He tells me
I swap my card, waiting for it to go through. When it does, he hands me a receipt to sign. I scribble my name on it and then push it back to him.
"Thank you for shopping with us, Jasper De'lone," he says
"Do you want to call my mother, sir?" I ask. "I can assure you she will tell you she's the one that gave me that card. As will as my name sir" I tell him
He hands me the little black bag that holds the small black velvet box that contains the tiny dancer inside.
"I don't think that will be necessary. Have a great day, sir, " he says.
I give him a smile, "and you as well,"
With the tiny dancer close to me, I head back toward the house. Mom is in the kitchen. As I step into the house, she looks up from what she's doing.
"Where have you been?" she asked
"Around," I tell her
She smarks. "I don't need you getting into any trouble today," she says
"No trouble, mom, what time are we leaving for the competition?" I ask
"We will have to leave at four so Amber can get ready,"
I nod. "I'll be ready by then," I tell her, then leave her with a blank stare. I stop outside of Amber's room. Her door is open, and she sits on her bed. "Hey," I say
"Hey," she looks up at me.
"Come on," I tell her.
She gets up slowly, "where are we going?" she asks as we walk toward the lift wing.
"Where do you think?"
I hold the door open for her as we get there. Then watch as she starts removing her clothes. I put the bag on a table nearby. I will gift it to her when the time is right. I step into the small kitchen that's there and grab a couple of wine glasses and some red wine that has been sitting up here for ages.
