Between the Sheets

Hitchhiker (Part 5)

I wake to darkness once again. My head is killing me. Tears are in my eyes it hurts so bad. I rest against the steering wheel my head in my hands.

"Your head hurting," Rue asks

"Very bad," I tell her, then take notice she sits in the passenger seat. "Where is Pen?" I ask

"I don't know," She says

Tears slip down my cheeks from pain. "Where is Pen" I ask again, anger in my voice.

"I don't know," She says again

I start to cry as my head starts hurting more. "He would never leave me alone. Where is he?" I ask, screaming at her

"I tell you, I do not know," She says

I start to panic. "This can't be happening," I say, trying to whip my tears

"It's OK, I understand your pain," Jela says from behind me she puts an arm around me. "I am here for you."

"Why?" I ask no one, and I notice that Tiras is also gone. "Why did he go when I needed him the most?" I cry out

"Because that's what bad sins do," I hear Rue say as she cries beside me.

"I just wanna go home,"

"They all do, Jasmin," Jela says, stroking my hair. "Let your pain out."

We sit like that me crying for a good while. Finally, when I can't cry anymore and all that's left are hiccups, I look out over the steering wheel at the farm land that surrounded us. In the darkness, I could barely see the green grass and trees that were out there, but I saw their dark shadows that striched in the night. I noticed there wasn't any noise. Silence hung in the air around us only when the car moved. Did I hear anything. I also noticed my vehicle was the only one I have seen for quite some time now.

"Isn't it wired?" I said

"What is wired?" Rue asks, sitting up

"The silence, there aren't any cars on the road and no buildings," I tell her. "It's so weird."

"Strange, maybe it's a sign," she says

I get out. "I'm going to call my mother to see if I can get ahold of her again."

"Good luck," Rue says

I let the door close as I dail the number the voice mail answers.

"This is Tammy Jordan. Please leave your name, number, and short message at the sound of the tone," it says

I smile at the sound of my mothers voice, clearing my voice. I speak into the phone as the beep comes:" Mom, it's me, Jasmin,
I, I don't know where I am. I'm alright, please don't worry about me. Tell Hannah and Becky I love them. Give daddy a hug for me. I love you all." The other beep ends my message. Closing my phone, I pocket it and go back to the car.

"Did you get a hold of her?" Rue asked

"Voice mail, I left a message. I hope she gets it, " I tell her

"I'm sure she will," Jela says

"Maybe we should move," Rue says

"I need to stay here in case Pen comes back," I tell her

"And if he doesn't," Jela asks

I close my eyes. "He has to. I need him,"

"Maybe he left for a reason," Rue says

"He told me he loved me. Why would he leave me?" I asked

"Maybe that's his reason for leaving," Jela says
