Mark's POV:
I was patrolling with Jeno for a good 10 minutes when Chenle starts a call abruptly to give us updates and orders. His idea of a group call was definitely first class because we needed to be aware of each others' situations.
If one of us were close by while the other was in trouble, it would be easier to help out. I heeded Chenle's words with no question because there was a rule in our agency; If a person gives an unexpected order, follow it because he definitely knows what you don't. And of course, no one could joke in a time like this. We all worked by trust.
Jeno and I parted ways with each other as soon as we heard our friends. I parked the car right in front of the hotel to wait for Chenle's exit and the new location we were needed at.
My phone signals an incoming call and I disconnect myself from the group one in order for me to answer it. It's a Korean number, and it also says 'private number' which leaves me a bit anxious because there can only be one place that would call with a private number.
I answer it regardless. "Yes, hello?"
"Mark Lee, it's-" The sender starts but I recognize the voice immediately.
"Colonel? You are c-calling.." I stutter a bit because it is always hard for me to conceal the truth from people. I have a strong conscious.
"Yes Mark, and you really thought I wouldn't find out?" He questions but I can tell his tone sounds light. Like he is joking with me, instead of being angry.
"I'm so sorry, it was..." I can't seem to finish my sentence because I don't find a valid answer to his question.
"It's okay, we've been posted. Gladly, even though it was from the opponents but it is worth it either way. We're sending the bomb squad from Jilin Military. They're going to assist you guys." He chuckles like he is talking about something as mundane as lollipops and chocolate bars.
"Really?! Jilin Military agreed to help us?"
"Of course, it's all because of me. Who would resist Colonel Jeong, Markie boy? No one. And don't tell me you punks tried to talk to them, how can they ever trust you? You are new to the organization." Hearing the Colonel brag makes me nostalgic about all the memories we had when we were rookie agents.
He also still manages to throw a few insults towards us, calling us new. Even though we've been in the organization for three years now.
"Listen Mark... " He continues when I don't reply, "Take care of everyone, and try to come back in one piece. Let this mission be a success too. Even if I wasn't the one who assigned it to you, you still have the same orders. Don't die!" This is his way of saying he loves us.
"I love you too Colonel!" And this is my way of showing gratitude for his support. Despite us breaching the rules and hiding it from him, he still chooses to support us by sending help. He could easily abandon in us and let the authorities handle us.
"No, you're only allowed to say that once you report back to Korea alive, okay?" I laugh at his remarks before ending the call briefly after that.
Chenle practically bursts through the door, panting profusely. He halts in front of me.
"Who were you talking to? I was trying to get a hold of you!" He taps his earpiece to indicate that.
"What happened?" I say while quickly reconnecting myself back on the group call. I can't afford to miss any more information.
