Hi, sorry for not uploading in a while. Just to give you a heads-up, I might not be writing as much as before because I have a lot of schoolwork and stuff.
______________
Severus finally got the DADA position, even if it's only for a while. DADA had always been his favourite subject during his time at Hogwarts. One might say that it was because he had been obsessed with the Dark Arts, others might think that it was because he had wanted to find ways to protect himself against the Dark Arts, the two sides were both correct. Severus had wanted to teach DADA for as long as he had been teaching in Hogwarts but of course, the headmaster had a different plan. It was rumoured that the position was cursed and so Dumbledore would not give up his best spy.
Severus cheerfully walked the halls of Hogwarts. Living with Harry Potter for almost a month had somewhat changed his entire personality, from the scary dungeon bat to the not-so-scary dungeon bat. He strode into the DADA classroom full of second years.
'Good morning, everyone. Professor Lockhart had a small "incident" at breakfast as some of you might know, so I am going to be substituting for him.' Severus announced which earned a round of "yes" es and "we can finally learn stuff" from the students, and somebody made clucking noises.
'Alright, settle down.' Severus said, slightly amused, 'Can anyone tell me what Professor Lockhart taught you the earlier class?'
Harry was the first to raise his hand.
'Mister Potter?' Severus invited him to speak.
'Last time, the professor told us about the time he defeated a three-headed dragon and needed us to memorise his favourite colour, and presents and had us write an essay about his good qualities and looks.' Harry said with a grin.
'Tell me this, did the professor teach you anything you think might be related to defence to you?' Severus asked the class, wondering how Dumbledore even thought Lockhart was capable of teaching.
Everyone shook their heads except for Hermione who was raising her hand.
'Yes, Miss Granger?'
'He released a bunch of pixies in here and taught us - or at least tried to teach us how to recapture them but even he couldn't do it and he ran out of the classroom. In the end, we learnt how to recapture them ourselves. Does that count as something related to defence?' Hermione raised an eyebrow.
'No, that is just an example of bad teaching.' Severus sighs a large sigh before saying, 'So, let us start at the beginning. We will be taking a more practical approach in this lesson. I will be teaching you the disarming spell, expelliarmus, can anyone tell me what a disarming charm is first?'
Hermione, again, eagerly raised her hand, waving it in the air.
'Miss Granger.'
'It knocks the victim's weapon, usually a wand out of his or her hands. It can also be used to knock other items out of the target's hands, but we seldom use it like that. When it is performed with more power, one can blast the opponent off their feet.'
'Very good. I am going to demonstrate the wand movement, pay close attention.' he did a seven-shaped movement. 'Is everyone clear?'
They nodded their heads.
'I want you to practise the movement first and I will come to see if you are doing it correctly. Then, I will show you the effects of the spell and you can try it on your own.'
Everyone started to flick their wands at their desks and Severus checked if they were correctly doing the movement.
'Okay, so now,' he put out his hand and suddenly, some metal dummies clutching wands came out of the closet. 'I will be showing you how to cast the spell on these dummies and you can practise using these.'
All the dummies charged at him with surprising speed and Severus moved with grace and agility and sent them all flying backwards, their wands sprawling on the floor. They all stacked into a pile of dummies. The students were impressed to say the least and Harry stared wide eyed at him.
'Line up and you shall be trying to disarm the dummies.'
The dummies got back up and the students tried to disarm them one by one. By the end of the class, they were all able to disarm a dummy.
The kids chatted happily away when they walked to their next class about how nice it was to finally get some knowledge.
Severus continued like that for the rest of the day and he was having fun, except for the parts when he heard about how badly Lockhart taught every grade, he was appalled by Lockhart's vain. How can he even be that obnoxious?
